We are looking to recruit level 2 or level 3 nursery practitioners for our nursery that caters for up to 111 children aged three months to five years.
The setting is operational Monday to Friday, 52 weeks of the year, except bank holidays. It is open 08:00 to 18:00, with the option of extended sessions for Breakfast club that starts at 07:00.
The setting is a family-owned business, which aims to provide a family feel to the nursery with a friendly, caring and fun atmosphere for all children and staff. The nursery has a wide variety of age-appropriate resources to help children develop and learn through play. All children have access to two fully equipped outdoor areas which allows them to explore freely.
A Nursery Practitioner is a key member of the early years’ team and is responsible for delivering high-quality care and learning opportunities for children based on their needs and interests. You will be required to work 40 hours per week on a flexible rota.
Job Specification:
1. To work as part of a team, maintaining good communication at all times.
2. To carry out all tasks that may be required, helping and supporting staff throughout the nursery as well as your immediate group.
3. Ensuring the needs of the children are met, particularly your group of key children.
4. Observing good practice at all times.
5. Maintaining the safety, security and physical and emotional welfare of the children in the nursery.
6. Ensuring that all children are safe, clean and supervised at all times.
7. Supervising and encouraging children’s independence at snack and meal times.
8. Be aware of any dietary requirements/allergies.
9. Ensure room routines are adhered to, in particular, when a senior is not present.
10. To deal with an accident when required to do so, following our accident/incident policy.
11. To liaise with management when medication is to be administered to a child, following the medication policy.
12. To attend staff meetings and contribute with ideas, implementing all suggestions in a positive way.
13. Be available to attend parents evenings.
14. To carry out observations and assessments on children within your key group and covering other observations in absence of key staff.
15. To be a positive role model, using positive language with the children to support boundaries and rules of the setting and adhering to our behaviour policy.
16. To contribute ideas to planning and ensure these support children’s development and the curriculum.
17. Welcome all parents and children into the room in a warm friendly manner.
18. To record information passed on by parents in the communication book, as well as notifying management where relevant.
19. Giving in-depth feedback to parents at the end of their child’s session.
20. Ensure messages are clearly communicated to senior staff.
21. Ensure daily sheets are completed appropriately and filed safely at the end of each day.
22. Provide a variety of activities suitable for age groups, thinking about how you can extend children’s learning.
23. Be aware of all policies and procedures and put them into practice.
24. Change nappies and encourage children with toilet training and personal hygiene.
25. Help children settle and build effective partnerships with parents.
26. To attend training and feedback this information to other members of staff.
27. Use initiative and seek help where needed.
28. Arrive on time and leave after checking that ratios are met.
29. Contribute to open days and other promotions required by the nursery.
30. To maintain the nursery environment e.g. sterilising, cleaning, tidying and other jobs deemed necessary for the efficient smooth running of the nursery.
31. To respect confidentiality within the nursery.
32. To work together in your team to ensure the smooth running of your base room.
33. Being sure you understand the safeguarding and whistleblowing policies confidently.
34. Be aware of how many children you are responsible for in the day and how many children in total within your base room.
35. Ensure children are signed in and out sufficiently using the Famly app.
36. Ensure the Famly app is updated and children’s activity is logged.
