Job Title: Costs Lawyer / Costs Draftsman
Location: Leeds (remote working considered)
Salary: £30,000 to £50,000
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Role Overview & Daily Responsibilities:
1. Preparing and submitting bills of costs to the Senior Courts Costs Office (SCCO).
2. Serving bills of costs on third parties in accordance with required procedures.
3. Noting and tracking relevant deadlines and key dates.
4. Ensuring compliance with these deadlines and adhering to the necessary processes.
5. Liaising with colleagues to gather all relevant information for the accurate preparation of bills of costs.
6. Advising team leaders and colleagues on best practice and strategies to improve levels of cost recovery.
7. Reviewing bills following preliminary and final assessments.
8. Managing responses, appeals, and negotiations with third parties and the SCCO.
9. Engaging with external costs draftsmen, counsel, the SCCO, and other relevant external bodies as required.
10. Ensuring accurate recording and adherence to reporting processes.
11. Making effective use of the case management system in line with agreed procedures.
12. Maintaining a thorough understanding of the assessment process.
13. Providing guidance and recommendations to the team to enhance procedural efficiency and improve cost recovery outcomes.
