The objective of this team is to operate the Museum to optimum levels of efficiency and excellence, creating a world-class visitor experience that supports the Museum's mission as Scotland’s design museum.
We are looking for a person who loves buildings, how they function, and can assist in the operation, maintenance, and cleanliness of V&A Dundee. A high degree of flexibility will be key to this role; we seek an organised and enthusiastic individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Help and carry out both reactive and scheduled work (PPM) to maintain the site to the highest standard.
2. Complete daily facilities and health and safety checklists, reporting issues to the Facilities or Duty Manager and liaising with Dundee City Council to ensure the appropriate contractor is used.
3. Identify and undertake general maintenance and janitorial tasks, promoting the smooth running of the facility.
4. Carry out weekly testing of life safety systems and systems that our visitors use (such as door controls, pull cords, etc.).
5. Enter items into the asset register and check and update the asset register.
6. Assist with the planning and organisation of maintenance contractors, enabling access and escorting contractors around the premises, completing maintenance and contractor logs as required.
7. Ensure that external grounds are kept clean, tidy, and safe, and that main pathways and entrances are cleared and safe in inclement weather conditions.
8. Clean specialist areas on an ad hoc and scheduled timescale, such as water features and wall slats.
9. Oversee waste management, ensuring the waste room is kept in good order and clean, arranging uplift of ad hoc waste, confidential waste, and special waste.
10. Assist in the set-up of events, meetings, training, and any other occasions.
11. Maintain health and safety precautions in all working areas, complying with good practices, policies, and procedures, particularly COSHH, Risk Assessments, Electricity at Work, Safe Systems at Work, Manual Handling, and safe use of equipment.
12. Attend training as appropriate and keep all necessary skills up to date.
13. Maintain operations stores, manage stock of equipment, and order consumables.
14. Implement the 5S standard and ensure the upkeep of all plant rooms and back-of-house work areas, reporting any non-compliance to the Facilities Manager or the Head of Building Operations.
15. Ensure familiarity with the Building Management System (BMS) and monitor electricity, water, and environmental conditions, liaising with the Facilities and Exhibitions department heads as appropriate.
16. Undertake the role of a Fire Marshall during evacuations and perform evacuation duties when requested.
17. Undertake duties as a weekend on-call keyholder for the building, reporting issues to Dundee City Council out-of-hours staff when appropriate.
