Job Description:
The Senior Net Zero Sustainability Consultant is recruiting for a Net Zero Consultant to join our team. Despite global efforts to reach consensus at COP, the world is still facing the stark reality of breaching the °C warming limit. It is clear that we need immediate and deep reductions in carbon emissions across all sectors to avoid catastrophic climate breakdown. We are at the leading edge of the decarbonisation agenda, helping our clients to develop decarbonisation strategies to translate their net zero carbon aspirations into meaningful action. This role is suited to a candidate who is deeply committed to delivering on Net Zero and meeting Climate and Biodiversity Emergency Declaration commitments.
As a Net Zero Carbon specialist in our Sustainability & Physics team, you can expect to work on a variety of projects providing bespoke net zero carbon advice and developing decarbonisation strategies for high profile clients within the UK, Europe, and across the World. Our team specialises in combining net zero carbon strategies with technical delivery; helping our clients to create ambitious decarbonisation pathways underpinned by realistic and deliverable implementation plans.
You will be working on some of the most exciting and technically challenging projects in our portfolio. Recent examples include:
1. Delivering a robust net zero carbon and holistic sustainability strategy for one of the largest life sciences laboratories in Europe.
2. Designing an all-electric, net-zero energy and net-zero water building which will meet the world’s most rigorous criteria for sustainability and resiliency.
3. Supporting the Co-operative headquarters in Manchester to achieve low levels of operational energy and receiving the highest ever BREEAM Outstanding score in the UK.
4. Leading the net zero energy strategy for a major refurbishment of a mixed-use University of Cambridge building, originally constructed during the 1960s.
5. Incorporating innovative ‘Energy trees’ equipped with solar panels to capture energy from the sun.
Your duties will include:
1. Undertaking in-depth energy and carbon performance data analysis of buildings, portfolios, and masterplans.
2. Carrying out energy/decarbonisation audits for existing buildings and sites – identifying potential energy and carbon reduction measures and strategies.
3. Keeping up to date with the latest developments in net zero carbon policy, drivers, and legislation in the UK and globally.
4. Developing net zero carbon road-maps and decarbonisation pathways for high profile international clients and their asset portfolios.
5. Preparing and presenting technical reports and analysis in engaging and meaningful ways; helping to communicate complex information across different levels of our client’s organisations.
6. Working with the leadership of the Sustainability & Physics team to support development and help shape the expansion of our strategic carbon consultancy and net zero carbon services.
7. Leading and delivering commercially successful projects with high-quality outputs that meet our clients' requirements.
8. Mentoring junior team members and helping them to develop the skills to deliver the net zero agenda.
Your skills & experience:
1. BEng, Meng, or MSc in Buildings Services/Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy systems, or similar related field.
2. Working knowledge of industry net zero carbon frameworks, guidance, and approaches (UKGBC, LETI, SBTi, and CRREM).
3. Data validation and analysis skills; able to demonstrate a high level of competency in Excel.
4. Experience in building services engineering design, particularly a strong understanding of HVAC systems.
5. Ability to communicate complex information and technical analysis in a clear and concise manner.
6. Effective and flexible communication skills.
7. Chartered professional or able to demonstrate working to chartered status with a relevant institution.
Exposure to the following areas is advantageous:
1. Carbon accounting experience, including broad knowledge of GHG Protocol principles.
2. Experience in undertaking energy audits of existing buildings.
3. Experience in developing energy performance calculations/modelling for demand reduction measures and technology changes.
4. Track record of managing and delivering building performance and/or net zero carbon projects in the industry.
5. Ability to present key findings and communicate ideas visually through infographics and charts.
