Overview
We are seeking an individual with extensive knowledge of HMRC statutory absence legislation, as well as familiarity with tax, national insurance, LGPS, and Teachers' pension regulations. System knowledge for user acceptance testing is also required.
Work Schedule: One day a week in the office, with remote work available for the rest of the week.
Role Summary
The Payroll service is part of the People and Transformation function, playing a crucial role in enhancing both customer and employee experiences. We are dedicated to providing a comprehensive service, leveraging new technology to better support users and enable a self-service and support function.
As a Payroll & People Advisor, you will deliver high-quality payroll and customer-focused transactional services. Your role will involve managing a high volume of diverse transactions and working to strict deadlines. You will be responsible for resolving payroll queries and performing analytical processing within one or more payroll disciplines.
You will provide prompt and efficient support and resolutions at the first point of contact. Our ethos is to offer advice, support, and guidance that is simple, clear, efficient, and effective, encompassing communication, terminology, and processes.
Responsibilities
* Ensure accurate data input for correct administration of payments and deductions in line with statutory and contractual requirements, such as pension contributions, and support employees in using self-service where possible.
* Resolve complex payroll queries within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
* Manage payroll processes to generate payments to employees and third parties, along with associated internal/external statutory reporting.
* Maintain the integrity and security of personal, contractual, and financial information to comply with legislation and policies.
* Collaborate within a team to ensure high-quality work and outputs.
* Respond to customer enquiries in a timely and professional manner, whether via the customer portal, in writing, or verbally.
* Contribute to service improvement efforts and system testing to exceed customer expectations.
Required Experience
* Strong understanding of HMRC statutory absence legislation, ideally with knowledge of tax, national insurance, LGPS, and Teachers' pension regulation contributions, and system knowledge for user acceptance testing.
* Evidence of continuing professional development and knowledge in the relevant professional area, working towards a CIPP qualification.
* Experience using payroll systems to deliver high-quality service.
* Good working knowledge of payroll processes, including statutory payments, deductions, and pension schemes.
* Experience collaborating with colleagues to provide good practice and policy advice.
* Excellent communication skills, including empathy, listening, questioning, and high-standard written communication.
* Experience working in a customer-oriented environment, handling queries in a service delivery setting, and continuously seeking service improvements.
