Drug and alcohol worker (family substance use) within the Integrated Family Support Team.
Service
Cwm Taf
Location: Flexibility to work across all areas of Cwm Taf, where appropriate is essential.
Hours: 30 hours per week. You may be required to work some evenings and weekends. This work will be planned wherever possible.
Reports to: Choices Young Person and Family Intervention Team Leader and Integrated Family Support Team team leader within the relevant local authority team.
Contract: Permanent in line with funding
THE SERVICE
The aim of the service is to engage people who use drugs or alcohol, and or their concerned others, in the treatment system and support them when accessing it. This includes early intervention, engaging and assessing service users, needle exchange, brief interventions, outreach, training, case management, health promotion and harm reduction initiatives and recovery and aftercare services. Barod services are provided in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory, and professional manner and in a way that demonstrates courtesy and respect for individuals using substances, and sensitivity to their unique personal situations and experiences.
ROLE PURPOSE
To support and deliver interventions to families referred to the RCT Integrated Family Support Team (IFST) who have been identified as having substance use issues. The IFST service works with families that are experiencing difficulties. The team works with families to help them make changes so that children can remain safely at home. As part of the team, the post holder will endeavour to improve relationships and outcomes for families by providing support/interventions on an outreach basis, working closely with all other organisations involved.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
AIMS
The ethos of the IFST is to support families to stay together by making and maintaining positive behavioural changes. This is achieved by:
* Providing evidence-based interventions and support to parents, carers, children, and young people who are impacted by substance use, domestic abuse, and mental health.
* To work collaboratively with other agencies within Rhondda Cynon Taf such as Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB, Community Drug and Alcohol Team (CDAT), Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), Children and Adolescents Mental Health Service (CAMHS), Housing and Barod to provide a holistic integrated family support service.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Support for parents in understanding the impact of their substance use on their child/ren and to provide harm reduction advice on their substance use when they have children.
* Supporting a whole family approach including working with wider family members to understand the person's drug use and working with the children around parental drug use.
* Develop and review work plans to meet identified needs of parents/carers and their children.
* Identify appropriate service to meet identified needs.
* Provide information, advice, crisis intervention, and practical support as well as structured substance use interventions including motivational interviewing, solution-focused approaches, one-to-one sessions, and group work.
* Where concerns are raised regarding a child/young person’s substance use or being affected by substance use of a family member, undertake assessment, offer brief interventions and encourage and support to engage with appropriate support agencies.
* Develop close and collaborative relationships with a wide range of service providers, both in statutory and voluntary sectors to ensure the holistic care of the family.
* Build local knowledge within the community to support relevant signposting.
* Promote health awareness to parents/carers and their children.
* Undertake appropriate administrative tasks.
* Maintain timely and accurate client records utilising the designated case management system.
Other duties
* Contribute to the monitoring and reviewing procedures for the service, including the submission of quarterly data.
* Participate in supervision, team meetings, and other staff support mechanisms deemed appropriate.
* Be prepared to undertake professional development training as required.
* Provide advice, support, and training to colleagues in partnership agencies as necessary.
* Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Barod and IFST team policies and procedures.
* Work in a non-judgmental, anti-discriminatory way at all times.
* Promote a positive profile of the agency.
* Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by the Management team.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Ideally all these requirements must be met by the candidate on appointment. However, in certain circumstances, a candidate may be appointed who does not meet a particular requirement. This is providing that the shortfall can be made good in a reasonable time, and the candidate brings other skills, knowledge or experience which are valuable to the role and the Organisation.
Qualifications and training
Expected to meet basic skills in numeracy and Literacy.
Health and Social Care qualification (or equivalent or relevant professional qualification) or willing to work towards.
Youth Work Qualification or equivalent/relevant or willing to work towards.
Proven experience of delivering structured interventions, talking therapies, CBT, relapse prevention, etc.
Role-related knowledge, skills & experience
Ability to communicate effectively with adults, children, and professionals.
Experience of working with children and young people.
Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their ethnic, cultural, social backgrounds, their gender, age, religious belief, disability, and sexual orientation.
Proven ability to network and build professional relationships.
Knowledge of substance use treatment and care pathways.
Knowledge of substance use including harm reduction advice, information, and interventions.
Experience of providing early identification and preventative interventions.
Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
Experience of community engagement.
Interpersonal skills
