An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the HPB surgical CNS team for one year as a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.
The Royal Free Hospital is a major teaching hospital and is a regional specialist centre for HPB surgery which has an international reputation for offering the highest standards of care.
The post is suitable for a dynamic nurse with experience in HPB surgery who would like to develop their knowledge in this speciality. Candidates need to be organised, motivated and have a keen interest in service development and improvement. Effective communication skills and a flexible approach are essential.
The post holder will manage their own case load of patients who have HPB malignancies and will be expected to undertake comprehensive assessments using advanced clinical judgement and knowledge. You will provide information, support and advice, instigate investigations and ensure symptoms are well managed. You will be the key worker for these groups of patients, provide expertise and act as a liaison for the referring trusts.

1. To liaise with all key members of the multidisciplinary team to advise and support colleagues in the delivery of specialised patient care across professional boundaries.
2. To undertake nurse led clinics and to be responsible for excellent standards of nursing care to patients through the planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating nurse-led clinics.
3. To work autonomously to deliver specialist clinical care appropriate to the needs of the patient group and based on principles that are research based and which enhance the quality of patient care.
4. To contribute to the facilitation of the planning, delivery and evaluation of care pathways for a designated group of patients.
5. To contribute to training and education within specialist area.
6. To promote an innovative and progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through reviewing the evidence base and embedding this in practice through engagement in research activities.
7. To act as a visible role model and expert practitioner.
