Job Title: Fire Engineer (Passive Fire Protection) Location: Cumbria Contract: Temp to perm Salary: £27-28 per hour Job Overview We are seeking a skilled Fire Engineer with expertise in passive fire protection to support the design, allocation, and implementation of fire-stopping solutions across a range of projects. The successful candidate will work closely with project teams to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and assist with technical specifications for fire-stopping, compartmentation, and structural fire protection systems within the nuclear and construction industry. Key Responsibilities Assist in the design and specification of passive fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with regulations. Provide technical guidance on: Fire-stopping solutions for penetrations and linear joints. Ductwork fire dampers and ventilation fire protection. Structural fire protection for steelwork and load-bearing elements. Fire doors, door sets, fire shutters, and active fire curtain systems. Fire barriers, cavity barriers, and compartmentation systems. Support the development and review of Engineered Judgments (EJs) for fire protection applications, ensuring compliance with BS EN and ASFP best practices. Work alongside project managers and site teams to implement fire safety strategies. Assist in the creation of fire protection drawings, technical submittals, and installation guidance. Conduct site visits to ensure fire protection measures meet compliance standards. Stay updated with the latest fire protection standards, testing protocols, and industry regulations. Knowledge & Experience Required Strong understanding of fire testing standards and regulations. Experience in passive fire protection design, fire-stopping, and compartmentation. Knowledge and experience in Engineered Judgments (EJs) or fire engineering assessments for fire-stopping applications. Familiarity with fire-stopping products, materials, and third-party accreditation schemes (e.g., FIRAS, BM TRADA, LPCB, IFC Cert). Ability to interpret fire test reports, product certifications, and technical datasheets. Experience working with fire-stopping drawings, digital documentation systems, and compliance records. Understanding of structural fire protection principles and compartmentation strategies. Qualifications & Skills Degree or equivalent qualification in Fire Engineering, Building Services, Construction, or a related field. Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IFE, ASFP, IFSM). Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret fire strategies and technical specifications. Experience with fire testing and liaising with test houses.
