The Welfare Assistant is one of the most rewarding and valuable roles in school. You will be at the heart of the school's care and wellbeing of students. This is very much a student facing role but does involve some liaison with teachers and other medical practitioners/organisations. The main duties and responsibilities of the post are to: -
* triage student or staff illness/injury and address accordingly
* where necessary, to liaise with parents/next of kin and emergency services in more serious medical situations
* ensure student medical records are accurate and up to date, and that information is uploaded onto the school data management system
* keep accurate records of all student medical interventions
* ensure the safe storage, and where necessary the accurate dispensing of student medication
* where necessary, to liaise with parents/carers and medical practitioners to create Individual Health Care Plans
* liaise and work with appropriate external agencies, such as the School Nursing Service and NHS School Age Immunisation service
* maintain school first aid kits, and ensure that these are made available for school trips
* on occasion provide staff training, for example in the use of epi-pens.
