We are looking for an exceptional nurse to join our team in a brand-new post as a Practice Development Nurse. You will work directly with the Care Team, supporting the team to gain skills and proficiencies, enabling them to care for children who rely on our care services.
Main duties of the job
The Practice Development Nurse will work as part of the Education Team, with a focus on supporting the Care Team to develop and consolidate clinical skills and proficiencies relevant to their role in a childrens hospice. Working directly with the Care Team on shift, to enable the acquisition of care proficiency when caring for babies, children and young people with life limiting conditions. One shift per week to be worked as a Nurse in the care team, with the other hours working alongside staff as an educator. Part time applications can be considered.
To fulfil the role effectively you will be a NMC registered Nurse. You will have experience of working with children and families who have complex needs, a passion for education and supporting team members to reach their potential. You will be a resilient individual and able to work collaboratively with both the Education and Care team.

At Bluebell Wood Childrens Hospice, we care for babies, children and young people whose lives are just too short. Our aim is to reach every family that needs our help and to offer them the very best choice of care.
Our services include short overnight stays and community breaks at home or in the hospice. We also support the whole family from diagnosis with our multi-disciplinary family support team who provide counselling, sibling support groups, music therapy and much more. Our Care Team support these families in our modern, purpose-built building. All our rooms bedrooms have a homely feel. We have a sensory room, spa pool, cinema room and six acres of gardens.
We support families from a large geographical area, including South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, North Derbyshire and parts of North Lincolnshire. The hospice is easily accessible from Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster, Sheffield and North Notts. We have free secure on-site parking for families and staff to use.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To identify learning needs of staff working in the hospice and support the delivery of our educational framework to promote learning across the team.
To promote a culture of learning and development using innovative ways to build practice education and to support the effective healthcare governance process. To promote a culture of learning within the organisation and encourage others to share their own learning and experience.
To maintain own clinical competence and that of care team by working a rostered shifts to allow for shadowing and development and skill sharing.
To participate in the education strategy from within care team including developing further the skills/competency matrix to reflect the level of education required in the care team. Supporting others in developing, consolidating, and maintaining clinical competence, by working alongside members of the care team.
To support the delivery of symptom management, end of life care and care after death.
Collaborate with Quality and Education Lead and other members of the Senior Care Leadership Team, to co-ordinate the training and development activities of hospice staff to ensure all users of the service benefit from the delivery of evidence-based practice.
To take the lead in the effective development of a clinical simulation programme, utilising the skills and experience within the multidisciplinary team and ensuring high quality evidence-based skill and practice.
To maintain Bluebell Wood Childrens Hospice reputation, as a provider of high-quality education in childrens palliative care locally and nationally, in collaboration with the Quality and Education Lead and Chief Nurse.
To provide educational support to individuals and groups of staff, through on the job teaching sessions and assessments of clinical proficiencies.
To ensure all clinical procedures are carried out in accordance with best practice guidelines and policies.
To ensure effective communication to the wider care team, including the dissemination of information accurately and timely to support effective team working.
To develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the Care Leadership Team and colleagues around the hospice.
To undertake and support staff in governance related activity, audit, quality assurance, risk management, policy and guideline development.
TRAINING, DEVELOPMENT AND RESEARCH:
To participate in the induction and preceptorship process for all new care staff.
To support the development of link nurse roles within the Care Team.
To participate in the development and continuous review of the Education Strategy and advise on the appropriateness of external training applications from the care team.
To support and encourage staff to share information and expertise through presentations at local and national events, publication etc
