Job Overview: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Manufacturing Engineer with expertise in sheet metal fabrication, mechanical assembly, and facilities management. The ideal candidate will have experience optimising production systems, improving manufacturing processes, and managing facilities to ensure a safe, efficient, and productive work environment. You will play a key role in overseeing sheet metal and assembly operations while also ensuring that the manufacturing facility runs smoothly, adhering to safety and environmental standards. Key Responsibilities: Process Development & Improvement: Design, develop, and optimise manufacturing processes for sheet metal fabrication and mechanical/electrical assemblies. Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality. Develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process flow diagrams. Evaluate new manufacturing technologies and recommend equipment or process upgrades to improve productivity. Sheet Metal Fabrication Expertise: Support the manufacturing of sheet metal components, including, bending, punching, and finishing. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to sheet metal fabrication processes, including material defects, machine performance, and process inefficiencies. Mechanical & Electrical Assembly: Manage and improve the assembly process for mechanical and electrical components, ensuring high-quality standards and adherence to design specifications. Collaborate with design and engineering teams to ensure that products are manufacturable and meet all mechanical, electrical, and safety requirements. Support the assembly of products, ensuring all parts are integrated and functioning as intended. Quality Control & Testing: Support Quality Team to develop and implement quality control plans and inspection criteria for sheet metal and assembly operations. Support testing and validation of mechanical and electrical assemblies, ensuring conformance to design and functionality standards. Production Support & Troubleshooting: Provide technical support to production teams, addressing manufacturing issues related to sheet metal processes, mechanical assembly, and electrical integration. Investigate and resolve production problems, offering solutions for tooling, equipment, and design-related issues. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess production efficiency, and implement improvements as needed. Facilities Management: Facility Maintenance & Operations: Ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of all manufacturing facility systems, including HVAC, lighting, power, and waste management. Coordinate routine maintenance and repairs of facility equipment, machinery, and infrastructure to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency. Work with external contractors and service providers to manage facility services, including electrical, plumbing, cleaning, and facility upgrades. Oversee inventory and management of tools and equipment required for manufacturing and facility upkeep. Energy Efficiency & Sustainability: Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs for manufacturing facilities. Work with management to implement sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction, recycling programs, and energy-efficient upgrades. Track and report on energy usage, water consumption, and other facility-related metrics to ensure sustainability goals are met. Space and Layout Optimisation: Plan and optimise the layout of manufacturing areas to improve workflow, safety, and efficiency. Support the design and reconfiguration of facilities to accommodate new manufacturing processes, products, or equipment. Ensure that all areas are organised, clean, and meet the necessary standards for production and employee welfare. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, production managers, and procurement teams, to ensure seamless integration of design into manufacturing processes and facility operations. Provide feedback on design for manufacturability (DFM) and collaborate with the design team to ensure designs are optimised for cost-effective and efficient manufacturing. Communicate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure product quality, timely delivery, and continuous improvement. Qualifications: Experience: 3 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role with a focus on sheet metal fabrication, mechanical/electrical assembly. Hands-on experience with sheet metal manufacturing techniques, such as punching, bending and finishing. Familiarity with mechanical and electrical assembly processes, including wiring, component integration, and system testing. Proficient in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and process design for manufacturability (DFM) reviews. Skills and Competencies: Strong understanding of sheet metal manufacturing techniques, material properties, and assembly processes. Knowledge of electrical assembly, including wiring, integration, and testing of electrical components. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot manufacturing and assembly issues. Experience with facilities management, including maintenance, space planning, and compliance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external vendors. Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Desirable Skills: Familiarity with advanced manufacturing technologies, including automation, robotic systems, and 3D printing. Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other process improvement methodologies. Experience with ERP/MRP systems and other production management tools.
