Job Description
My client, a dynamic global manufacturing organisation supplying a vast range of high-performance fluid sealing products and associated knowledge-based services to virtually every industry sector. With state-of-the-art skills in materials technology, particularly relating to elastomers, polymers, composites and engineering plastics plus extensive expertise in precision machining of exotic alloys for metallic seals, and tension control fasteners for bolted joints.
The Position
The Product Engineer vacancy is based at a large site in Cockermouth which employs over 400 people. This business unit typically operates a high variety, low volume, bespoke manufacturing operation across a 3-shift operation. The site supplies advanced engineering elastomers for critical applications in Oil & Gas, Energy/Power, Marine, Nuclear, Defense, Pharmaceutical, Power Generation and Aerospace industries. Through its vertically integrated capabilities which include product development and design, tool making, compounding, extrusion, moulding, testing and global distribution
Key responsibilities :
o Preparing engineering drawings to a high standard.
o Producing technical reports on new product developments, product failures and project progress.
o Assist with the design and development of new products for specific applications within the oil & gas industry sectors.
" Provide support to product managers for VOC activity, with the creation of training and marketing communications to develop technical and sales teams.
o Investigate product failures determining the root cause and deciding corrective and preventative actions
o Preparing and maintaining project files and quality systems in line with BS ISO 9001 requirements.
o Working closely with in house and third party testing facilities to support continued validation of product performance to new market and industry trends.
o To provide technical support to colleagues and customers on sealing applications, material recommendations and operating conditions.
Experience and Qualifications
o An engineering related degree, a HND or HNC. An honours degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or incorporation of IMechE would be preferred.
o CAD design experience.
o Finite Element Analysis experience would be advantageous.
o A background in electrical engineering would be beneficial
o Previous experience in a design role within an engineering environment would be preferred.
