Job Description:
The Learning & Teaching Partner will be responsible for advancing excellence in teaching and learning within their designated region. By working directly with academic staff and managers, they will deliver professional development, support curriculum innovation, and champion the adoption of inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices.
Responsibilities:
Learning & Teaching Support
* Provide onboarding and induction support for new academic staff to familiarise them with ESL standards, teaching expectations, and available resources for designing and planning learning activities and programs.
* Collaborate with academic staff on enhancing pedagogy through active learning, blended learning, and effective assessment design, ensuring these efforts align with regional needs and academic staff expertise levels.
* Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and personalised consultations, offering a structured learning and teaching development pathway that supports ongoing growth and skill enhancement.
* Promote involvement in scholarly activities related to teaching practices, encouraging academic staff to lead or participate in research that contributes to the academic community and informs evidence-based practices.
Regional Engagement and Needs Assessment
* Partner with regional academic staff and managers to conduct regular needs assessments, identifying areas for targeted development and ensuring alignment with ESL goals.
* Advocate for regional academic staff by communicating local challenges and insights to the central team, contributing to broader ESL Learning & Teaching Policy and Strategy.
* Establish metrics and feedback loops to assess the impact of Learning & Teaching initiatives (e.g., student outcomes, staff satisfaction, retention rates), enabling continuous improvement and evidence-based adjustments to support practices.
Educational Technology and Innovation
* Provide support and training in educational technology and digital literacy to help academic staff effectively incorporate digital tools and virtual learning environments (VLE) in blended and online teaching models.
* Guide academic staff in adopting technology that aligns with pedagogical best practices, enhancing student engagement, learning experiences, and teaching efficacy through effective use of digital tools and engagement strategies.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
* Provide expertise in aligning teaching practices with regulatory standards and institutional benchmarks, such as OfS and Advance HE standards, ensuring our teaching consistently meets and exceeds sector expectations.
* Collaborate with cross-functional departments and Professional Services teams to create a holistic approach to student success and support continuous improvement.
* Implement data collection and reporting tools to help specialists assess, refine, and adjust practices, aligning with ESL goals responding to emerging trends, new regulations, and evolving academic staff needs.
Learning Environment and Industry Engagement
* Develop initiatives to enhance student engagement, supporting student surveys (e.g. NSS), and retention by equipping academic staff with strategies for creating optimised learning environments, meaningful assessments, and personalised feedback.
* Foster partnerships with local industries, community organisations, and educational institutions to create real-world learning opportunities and industry-relevant curriculum content, enriching student experiences and impact.
* Implement resources and workshops focused on active learning, inclusive teaching, and effective feedback methods to further enhance student success and involvement.
Essential Requirements:
* Postgraduate degree in education, instructional design or related field.
* Recognition from Advance HE or similar professional standards in learning and teaching.
* Proven experience in educational development, academic staff support, or curriculum innovation, preferably in higher education or adult learning environments.
* Strong understanding of regional educational trends and challenges, coupled with excellent interpersonal skills to motivate and engage academic staff effectively.
* Proficiency in educational technology, curriculum design, and regulatory standards, with a proactive approach to continuous learning and development.
* Excellent interpersonal skills to engage and motivate diverse academic staff.
* Passionate about collaboration, working cross-functionally in teams and widening participation.
