Purpose of the Role:
1. To design and maintain algorithms to interrogate our vehicle models.
2. To model dynamic systems to accurately represent vehicle performance.
3. To develop innovative, cutting edge simulation tools to support the wider Engineering team.
4. To provide technical assistance to the broader Team, ensuring seamless operation of simulation tools.
5. To contribute to the development of a world class simulation toolchain and analysis techniques.
Role Dimensions:
1. This role sits in the Simulation Engineering Group, within Vehicle Performance.
2. The role is principally concerned with the development of industry-leading simulation tools and methodologies for use in the optimisation and development of vehicle performance.
3. The role provides mentoring and support for junior staff.
4. The role may involve in-event remote support for the trackside simulation toolchain.
The role reports directly to the Head of Simulation Engineering.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. To model and simulate dynamic systems.
2. To identify actionable simulation development opportunities.
3. To develop new methodologies from conceptualisation to deployment and to support their use.
4. To report on simulation performance and benchmarking studies.
5. To generate clear and well-documented code.
6. To provide technical assistance to the broader team.
7. To produce insightful, high-quality analysis in challenging timeframes.
8. To innovate, proposing and developing new ideas & concepts.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Required:
1. Master’s degree (PhD preferred) or equivalent in Engineering, Physics or Applied Mathematics.
2. Proficiency in MATLAB, C++ and Python.
3. Strong experience with numerical methods, modelling and simulation techniques.
4. Excellent technical and mathematical skills.
5. Expertise in dynamical systems analysis and control.
6. Competent user of version control & efficiency tools.
7. Ability to deliver complex information in audience-appropriate oral or written style.
Preferred:
1. Previous experience in a vehicle performance-focused role in high-level motorsport.
2. Broad awareness of vehicle dynamics & global performance sensitivities in an F1 setting.
3. Data science and machine learning competency.
4. Experience of ATLAS or similar time-series data analysis tools.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking.
