Job overview
The Practice Educator/Facilitator has a prime responsibility to develop and support the midwifery staff, midwifery support workers with a focus on student midwives. The post holder will act as an expert practitioner providing midwifery clinical leadership and foster a climate where practice development becomes integral to the education of all staff.
Main duties of the job
* Support the Practice Education Lead and Head of Midwifery & Gynaecology with the educational activities of individual pre and post registration students and return to practice (RTP) midwives, by working in partnership with the HEI to promote evidenced based learning in the development of midwifery practice.
* Work in collaboration with midwifery management team to move services forward in line with external agencies and government initiatives.
* Develop and deliver formal and informal education provision, actively participating in the provision of education for staff and evaluate education programmes against evidence based literature.
* Identify gaps in knowledge and skills of maternity staff and develop appropriate training to support developing maternity staff’s clinical knowledge, skills and competence.
* Responsible for the planning, organising and co-ordinating of ongoing teaching programmes to ensure the clinical skills of the multidisciplinary team are maintained.

Education and Qualifications
* Registered Midwife
* A degree level qualification in midwifery or working towards
* Mentorship/ teaching and assessing course
* Teaching ‘qualification’ (ENB 997 or equivalent)
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* Examination of the Newborn trained
* PROMPT/NLS /AIMS trained /instructor
* MSc or equivalent level of skills, experience and knowledge
* Trained to give BCG Vaccinations
* Experience of teaching antenatal education
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience of being a mentor within a professional context
* Demonstrate an understanding of evidence-based practice
* Evidence of understanding and facilitating change in practice
* An understanding of current developments in the NHS
* Demonstrates an understanding of the concept of clinical and shared governance
* Experience of teaching at undergraduate level
Skills and Attributes
* Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge
