Job Title: Institute Manager Location: London - Work from home available Duration: 6 months Hours of Work: 36.5 hours per week Pay rate: £35.05ph - £38.03ph - PAYE Role Overview: We are seeking to recruit an experienced Institute Manager for the Institute of Prion Diseases on a temporary basis for up to 6 months. The Institute Manager is responsible for the smooth running of all aspects of the Institute's operational support services, including finance, IT, HR, and scientific support services. Key Responsibilities: Lead the professional services operational, technical, and administrative functions, ensuring efficient and professional support services. Manage the Institute's budgetary and financial operations, optimising resource use. Support the Institute Director in implementing the Institute's scientific and operational strategy. Collaborate with business partners and professional services leads to ensure service delivery meets the Institute's needs. Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and Institute policies and procedures. Manage the Institute's external relations initiatives. Provide effective leadership and management of the Institute's professional services and technical team. Oversee the Institute's digital presence and operational activities at the Biological Services Facility (BSF). Develop and implement strategic objectives and priorities in collaboration with the Institute Director. Ensure effective HR services, including recruitment, induction, and retention of Institute staff.Essential Requirements: Proven track record in a senior role in administration, operations, and management within a higher education environment. Experience in budgetary management and control of large-scale, complex budgets. Knowledge of research funding principles and governance. Educated to a minimum of degree level, preferably PhD level, in a scientific discipline. Strong interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent time management, organisational, and communication skills. Experience of project and change management. Detailed knowledge of research grants, contracts, and other agreements. Experience of working with business partners to deliver services and implement change management and strategy. Experience of working with NHS partners and clinical academics. Good understanding of higher education policies, practices, and procedures. Experience of handling confidential information and communications in a sensitive and effective manner. Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple activities to meet organisational priorities. Innovative thinking and a strong interest in higher education.
