Act as line manager to the Lead Radiotherapy Assistants managing sickness absence, conducting appraisals and actively participating in the recruitment selection process. Develop effective protocols and work instructions to cover the tasks performed by the assistant team and mould room staff to the standard required by the radiotherapy department BSi accredited quality system. Participate in the audit schedule to support the quality system internal audit program.
Take an active role in the multidisciplinary technique development team (TDT) meetings for head and neck and CNS cancers providing guidance and advice on immobilisation devices and mould room issues. Attend the Radiotherapy Management Meetings to advise the management team on issues relating to the mould room service and assistant team. Provide support to patients, explain the process for manufacturing treatment shells and ensure all arrangements are in place for the treatment shell process plus all subsequent appointments.
Act as operator under IR(ME)R to lead the shell making procedure, ensuring the patient is correctly positioned while still ensuring a high level of care for the patient who may be experiencing anxiety due to claustrophobia or other issues during a potential distressing process.
Manufacture treatment shells for cancer patients receiving radiotherapy to a high standard capable of providing reliable daily reproducibility to within a maximum tolerance of 3mm. Provide support to the CT Radiographers to care for cord compression patients who may need personal care, toileting or pain management. Responsible, with support from the Deputy Radiotherapy Manager, for developing, testing and manufacturing patient immobilisation devices and bolus materials to ensure safe and accurate delivery of radiotherapy.
