Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Metabolic CNS to join the team at the Children's Hospital for Wales. The paediatric Inherited Metabolic Disease Service has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated nurse with an interest in paediatric Metabolic Medicine to help deliver this nationally commissioned highly specialised service which provides support and care to children and their families across Wales with general Inherited Metabolic Disorders and Lysosomal Storage Disorders.
Prior knowledge is not essential and on the job training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
* Work closely within the wider MDT to support patients in Wales with rare conditions.
* Provide expert nursing advice and specialist support to patients, carers, and professionals within the hospital and primary care setting.
* Initial patient assessment and initiating a care plan for patients in partnership with the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT).
* Support patients whilst undergoing diagnostic tests.
* Provide patients, families, and staff with expertise in general Inherited Metabolic Disorders and Lysosomal Storage Disorders.
* Liaise with metabolic laboratory to facilitate specific biochemistry and sample handling.
* Initiate and implement standards of nursing treatment and care for IMD patients.
* Support nurse-led clinics and service development.
* Liaise with community-based agencies and homecare providers.
* Actively involved in clinical trials.
* Network locally and nationally to ensure best practice.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

* MSc Evidence of CPD
* Teaching and assessing in clinical practice/Teaching qualification
* Independent prescribing
Experience
* Demonstrable experience in relevant specialty
* Experience of managing own caseload in relevant specialty
