Job Overview:
As a Conventional Machinist/Manual Machinist, you will play a key role in performing various machining and grinding operations within the machine shop. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in manual machining techniques and be proficient with several types of machinery, including manual lathes, Bridgeport, Colchester, and Cincinnati machines.
Key Responsibilities:
Manual Machining: Operate various manual machining tools, including lathes, mills and grinders, to produce high-quality components.
Machining on Specific Equipment: Utilize Bridgeport, Colchester and Cincinnati machines for milling and turning operations.
Grinding Techniques: Perform cylindrical and surface grinding, demonstrating strong competence with Studer grinding machines (experience with Jones and Shipman machines is a plus).
Balancing: Use Schenck balancing machinery (experience preferred) to ensure precision in balancing components.
General Machining Operations: Perform milling, turning, linishing, fettling, lathe work, bench fitting, and ultrasonic cleaning.
Engineering Drawings: Accurately interpret and work from engineering drawings and instructions to meet specific machining requirements.
Teamwork and Independence: Work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic machine shop environment.Desirable Skills & Experience:
Manual Lathes: Experience with manual lathes is highly desirable.
Grinding and Balancing: Ability to demonstrate grinding and balancing techniques, with experience on Studer grinding plant and Schenck balancing machinery being advantageous.
Aerospace or Military Sector Experience: Previous experience within the aerospace or military sectors is considered desirable.
Eligibility for BPSS Clearance: Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be eligible for BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) clearance.Qualifications & Requirements:
Strong experience in manual machining and grinding techniques.
Ability to work to very tight tolerances.
Previous experience with or knowledge of using Schenck balancing machinery and Studer grinding plant is an added advantage.
Able to demonstrate grinding and balancing techniques.
Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings and instructions.
Must provide 3 years of employment history.
