This post is an exciting opportunity to make a direct contribution to the long-term conservation of UK biodiversity as part of the Millennium Seed Bank’s (MSB) UK Programme. The post-holder will work closely with colleagues and external partners to identify priority species and target populations for seed collecting, plan and deliver all aspects of fieldwork and return high quality collections of seed, herbarium specimens, tissue samples and data to the MSB. This role will focus on either the UK threatened and endemic flora or UK trees and other woody species but will also be required to undertake collecting from other species as part of the broader UK Programme. It will involve seasonal fieldwork and opportunities to engage and work with local partners involved in nature conservation across the UK. Educated to degree level or equivalent, the successful candidate will have experience of organising and carrying out fieldwork, including logistical arrangements, risk assessment and liaison with landowners and site managers. Good team working and communication skills are essential, including the ability to write clear and concise reports and communicate the UK Programmes work to a range of specialist and non-specialist audiences. Some familiarity with the UK native flora and seed collecting is required, as is the ability to travel frequently in the UK and work away from home. Although this post will be well supported within the MSB’s UK Programme, the post-holder must be able take initiative and work independently in the office, at home and in the field. Interviews are due to take place on 24-25 April. This role is based at Wakehurst with the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.
