As a Youth Mentor what does the role entail:
The role will involve being part of a broader project called Moving Forward, which includes Y: Mentoring and Y: Move On. Over a 3–6-month period, Mentors will work closely with Children and Young People living in Fleetwood/ Wyre to identify achievable goals, empowering them to take ownership of their personal development and education. Mentors will ensure that the young people they work with feel heard, supported, and valued, advocating on their behalf with other agencies or service providers when necessary. The sessions will offer a relaxed environment where they can freely discuss any concerns, while also being structured to co-create and implement a self-development plan. This plan will focus on key areas such as building strong relationships, promoting a healthy body, mind, and spirit, enhancing resilience, and exploring future prospects.
Your day will consist of …
• Processing referrals into service
• Building relationships with families, community partners and statutory agencies.
• To engage and empower young people to complete self-assessments, identify barriers and aspirations, which will form the basis of the programme.
• Work flexibly around young persons needs including traveling to schools if necessary.
• Delivering 1-1 and group sessions to help young people develop skills in individual areas as defined within self- assessment of needs and personal development plans.
• Work in partnerships with agencies to break down barriers for individuals accessing the programme.
• Empower Young people to engage in services.
• Empower Young people to realise and achieve their full potential.
• Maintain records to a high standard that are necessary for the funding requirements of the scheme.
• Maintain records that are necessary for the smooth operation of the scheme.
• Building relationships with community partners, local landlords and statutory agencies.
This job is for you, if…
• You have a relevant qualification or equivalent experience in Youth work, therapeutic practices or education.
• You have an understanding of barriers that young people face.
• You have a good standard of education to G.C.S.E level or equivalent, with grade C or above – or equivalent in Mathematics and English.
• Fully I.T literate in all Microsoft Packages
• You have good communication skills both written and verbal.
• You have a calm personable nature and find appropriate resolutions when handling conflict or difficult issues.
• You are a resilient and confident team worker who can work on their own initiative or work as part of a team.
• Can drive and have access to vehicle with a clean licence.
