General Manager - Diggerland Devon

Diggerland Devon is looking for a dynamic, passionate, and hands-on General Manager to lead the daily operations of our one-of-a-kind construction themed adventure park. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced manager who thrives in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment and is eager to take on an exciting challenge.
At Diggerland, we provide families with an unforgettable experience where kids and adults can ride, drive, and operate real diggers, dumpers, and other construction machinery. We are looking for a strong leader who will ensure our visitors enjoy an outstanding day out while maintaining the highest standards of safety, operational efficiency, and team engagement.
The General Manager will have the full support of an Office Manager and a Park Manager, ensuring a collaborative and structured leadership team.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Operational Leadership
* Oversee the day-to-day operations of the park, ensuring rides and attractions run smoothly, efficiently, and safely.
* Ensure exceptional cleanliness, maintenance, and presentation of the park at all times.
* Coordinate across departments, including maintenance, food & beverage, marketing, finance, customer service and safety, to provide a seamless guest experience.
* Implement and monitor winter close and summer reopening procedures to keep the park running at peak performance.
Team & Staff Management
* Lead, inspire, and manage a team of enthusiastic ride marshals, machine operators, and support staff.
* Recruit, train, and mentor staff to deliver fantastic customer service.
* Foster a positive, fun, and motivated work environment to encourage staff retention and development.
* Handle staff rotas, performance management, and team engagement.
Guest Experience & Customer Satisfaction
* Ensure that every visitor receives a warm welcome and an unforgettable experience at Diggerland Devon.
* Manage and resolve customer queries, feedback, and complaints efficiently and professionally.
* Drive initiatives to enhance visitor satisfaction and encourage repeat visits.
* Be a true brand advocate, promoting Diggerland in a positive, engaging, and inspiring manner.
Health, Safety & Compliance
* Working alongside the Health & Safety Manager to oversee health & safety protocols, ensuring full compliance with legal and industry regulations.
* Conduct regular safety inspections, maintain records, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
* Train staff on emergency procedures and safety standards to ensure a secure environment for both guests and employees.
Financial & Business Strategy
* Working alongside the Purchase Ledger department at Diggerland Head Office, manage and monitor the park’s budget, revenue, and expenses.
* Identify opportunities to increase profitability, manage costs, and improve efficiency.
* Alongside the Financial Director, assist with analysing financial and operational data to make strategic decisions that will drive growth.
* Work with stakeholders to develop and implement long-term strategies for Diggerland Devon.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential Skills & Experience
* Ideally previous experience in a General Manager or senior management role within a theme park, visitor attraction, hospitality, or large retail enterprise.
* Proven track record in leading and managing teams, with strong people-development skills.
* A true people person, able to engage with guests and staff at all levels.
* Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work in fast-paced, high-energy environments, making quick and effective decisions.
* Experience managing budgets, financial performance, and strategic planning.
* Mechanical and electrical knowledge is essential for this role.
* Hands-on approach – willing to roll up your sleeves and get involved in daily operations.
* Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (appropriate clothing will be provided).
Preferred Qualifications
* Educated to Level 3 (A-levels or equivalent) or 5+ years of management experience in a related industry.
* Proficiency in using either Google Docs or Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
* Local candidates preferred or ability to commute easily to Cullompton, Devon.
Working Hours & Seasonal Operations
Diggerland is a seasonal attraction, operating from February through to November, with the busiest periods during spring and summer. Over the winter months, essential maintenance work and staff training take place. During this time, full-time, permanent staff accrue lieu time, which is often taken back over the winter period, allowing for more flexibility and work-life balance.
You will usually have the Christmas and New Year period off, providing a well-earned break before preparing for the next season.
