Our client is an ocean data company - they collect data for clients ranging from mapping the seabed to monitoring the environment. Instead of using conventional crewed survey ships, they have developed a marine robotic system known as a USV.
Key skills required for this role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Geophysicist to join our client. This is a full-time remote position, providing the opportunity to be at the forefront of the rapidly evolving Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) market. As a Senior Geophysicist, you will play a pivotal role in geophysical data processing, interpretation, and reporting while managing a small team of junior geophysicists. This position offers a clear path for career progression within a world-leading company in the over-the-horizon USV industry.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Management: Lead and mentor a small team of junior geophysicists.
2. Data Processing & Interpretation: Develop and optimize processing workflows for various datasets, including shallow sub-bottom profiler (SBP), magnetometer, and side-scan sonar data.
3. Deliverables & Reporting: Ensure high-quality creation and quality control (QC) of final deliverables, including report writing.
4. Real-time Quality Control: Collaborate with the online team to monitor data capture using both online and offline survey tools.
5. Client & Project Liaison: Work closely with sub-contractors, clients, and project team members to achieve project objectives.
Occasional Responsibilities:
1. Remote Data Acquisition: Handle remote data acquisition and processing of multibeam echo sounder (MBES), side-scan sonar, and shallow SBP sensors.
2. Survey System Setup: Assist in the configuration of hardware and software prior to vessel mobilization.
3. Support & Planning: Aid the Lead Geophysicist in planning and resource allocation.
4. Process Management: Implement and manage standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ISO standards related to Quality, Environment, and Health and Safety.
Qualifications & Experience:
1. Degree in Geoscience or Geophysics.
2. Minimum of 4 years of marine survey experience.
3. Proficient in side-scan sonar, magnetometer, and shallow sub-bottom sensor data processing.
4. Experience with processing software such as Chesapeake SonarWiz, Moga Seaview, DUG Insight, and Oasis Montaj.
5. Strong computer literacy and configuration of sensor equipment.
6. Positive, proactive attitude with keen attention to detail.
7. Coding and scripting experience (Python, C/C++, MATLAB).
8. GIS experience (Global Mapper, QGIS, ARC GIS, AutoCAD).
9. Experience in bathymetry data acquisition and processing.
10. Familiarity with marine survey data acquisition and processing software (e.g., QINSy, Qimera, EIVA).
If you are a motivated geophysicist looking to advance your career in an exciting and innovative company, we encourage you to apply.
