Description
The Department of Performing Arts at Clemson University seeks an outstanding lecturer of Theatre/Acting to begin August 2025. This is a 9-month faculty position that will hold the academic rank of regular full-time Lecturer. Candidates should be prepared to teach courses in the Theatre emphasis area, as well as direct one mainstage production during each academic year.
The hired lecturer will teach Theatre Appreciation and Acting 1 for Non-Majors. Candidates with additional experience teaching Shakespeare, stage combat, musical theatre teaching/directing, and/or theatre for young audiences are especially encouraged to apply for this lecturer position. This position will operate under a 3/3 teaching load (3 courses one semester; 2 courses and 1 directing assignment in the next semester).

The Performing Arts degree at Clemson University is a nationally distinctive degree that integrates the technology, performance, production, theory, and history of the performing arts into a unified program of study that prepares students for careers in many aspects of the arts including theatre, music and audio technology. The Department of Performing Arts occupies the Robert Howell Brooks Center for the Performing Arts. The Brooks Center is an 87,000 square foot educational/performance building that includes classrooms, rehearsal halls, offices, and supporting spaces.
Qualifications
1. Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts
2. Teaching experience at the secondary or college level is preferred
3. Strong organizational and administrative skills
4. Conversant in theatre history and contemporary professional practices
5. Specialty area(s) preferred (ie: Shakespeare, stage combat, musical theatre teaching/directing, theatre for young audiences)
6. Recent professional acting and/or directing experience
7. Desire to stay current and relevant in area of practice
8. A commitment to and interest in diverse student recruitment

Additional Information:
Salary commensurate with credentials and experience with a range between $45,000 - $50,000. This position qualifies for state benefits.
