Position Summary:
Assume responsibility as the primary attorney for the NBA's global merchandise and retail business and marketing department. The NBA requires an experienced attorney with an extensive understanding of product licensing and marketing transactions and matters. This experienced attorney must be capable of managing all aspects of deal negotiations and implementation, including navigating issues related to new digital products and offerings.
Major Responsibilities:
:Serve as lead attorney for licensing agreements related to the NBA's apparel, video game, sporting goods, and digital and other product licensing portfolio that involve a wide variety of assets of the NBA and its affiliated leagues, such as intellectual property, marketing, and media assets, and that may leverage creative deal structures, such as the acquisition of equity.
:Serve as lead attorney for NBA retail arrangements, including concerning ecommerce platforms and brick:and:mortar locations.
:Serve as lead attorney for the NBA's marketing department by structuring, drafting, and negotiating agreements and advising on initiatives related to the promotion of the NBA.
:Serve as lead attorney related to the NBA's branded attractions business.
:Advise teams and business clients on a range of matters involving name/image/likeness (NIL) rights of players, retired players, and other individuals, including working with the NBA's player marketing group on securing authorizations and finalizing agreements with, among others, player representatives and retired players.
:Serve as league legal contact for teams on licensing, retail, and marketing matters to provide advice on league policies and best practices.
:Advise and collaborate with the senior leaders of the global merchandise and retail business and marketing department, and other key leaders.
:Manage a senior paralegal and oversee the NBA's contract management process for the global merchandise business and marketing department.
Required Education/Professional Experience:
:Law degree and admission to practice in the State of New York.
:10+ years of experience at a leading law firm and/or corporate legal department.
:In:house experience preferred.
Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes:
:Extensive experience drafting and negotiating major product licensing, retail, and marketing:related arrangements and other commercial agreements.
:Extensive experience working directly with, and providing legal and other advice to, senior and other business clients.
:Outstanding written and oral business communication skills.
:Strong drafting and negotiating skills.
:Ability to work in a fast:paced environment; flexibility and effective time management skills to balance multiple priorities.
:Creative problem:solving skills to assist in meeting business needs and seizing new opportunities, while mitigating risk and managing key relationships.

Salary Range:265,000 : 320,000
