Job Title: Design Engineer
Location: Hull, HU9
Annual Salary: £35,000 - £40,000
Working Days & Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Purpose of the Design Engineer:
The role of Design Engineer is to work in the drawing office and design manufacturing processes and products.
Key Duties:
1. Coordinate individual projects through the engineering department to ensure on-time completion
2. As a Design Engineer you will create structured 3D models and accurate 2D manufacturing drawings based on job specifications
3. Ensure drawings comply with vehicle regulations and standard formats
4. Design basic components and update drawings as needed for design changes
5. Collaborate across departments for effective communication
6. Produce sales drawings and occasionally contribute to R&D projects
7. Liaise with the shop floor during job production
Key Skills:
8. Proficient in Autodesk Inventor 2023, Vault 2023, and AutoCAD 2023 (Experience with iLogic is a plus)
9. As a Design Engineer you must be skilled in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
10. Strong engineering knowledge of materials such as steel, timber, and GRP composites
11. Familiarity with Whole Vehicle Type Approval regulations
12. Understanding of Design for Manufacture principles
13. Experience in Lean Manufacturing environments
14. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to visualise solutions
15. Basic project management capabilities
16. Effective at meeting deadlines with a meticulous attention to detail
Qualifications:
17. 2-3 years’ of experience in a similar position or industry
18. Background of engineering qualifications, preferably mechanical
19. Practical experience in commercial vehicle bodybuilding or van conversion using insulated panels is advantageous
