GSK Apprenticeships are full-time, early starter jobs that offer Year 13 secondary school and post-16 students the opportunity to begin their career while studying towards a qualification. This qualification is fully funded by GSK so that you can avoid having any debt.
This role is based in Ware where we manufacture a range of medicines for cancer, HIV and COPD. There are two main production streams, Oral Solid Dose (tablets and capsules) and Respiratory (inhalers).
Education required:
* 5 GCSE or equivalent with a grade 5 in Maths.
Other requirements:
* Must be able to commute to the GSK Ware site and Harlow College.

You will be working at GSK’s Ware manufacturing facility where you’ll be learning how to maintain and improve our pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment and facilities, helping to ensure we can make the medicines and vaccines that we supply to patients.

Charlotte, Ware, Engineering Apprentice: “As an Engineering Apprentice in OSD (Oral Solid Dose) I work alongside the Engineering Technicians whose job it is to maintain, fix and calibrate the machines that produce the medicine. The majority of days are never the same; you can arrive at work with a challenge you've never encountered before, which gives you constant opportunities to learn.”
Claire, Ware, Engineering Apprentice: “I support the packing lines during running and attend problems that arise from machine-related issues in order to keep production running to the best of my ability. I problem solve with assistance from the Technicians.”

This is a 4-year practical, hands-on apprenticeship where you’ll be working towards a Level 3 Engineering Technician pathway qualification through Harlow College.
Your studies are fully funded by GSK, and through your day-to-day work you’ll have lots of opportunities to apply your theoretical knowledge in a real-world manufacturing environment.

What will you be doing day-to-day?
* The first year of your apprenticeship will include attending college full-time where you will gain an understanding of Engineering principles and workshop safety.
* Following this you will work across multiple Engineering departments each on an approximately 6-month rotation.
* You will work with experienced Engineering Technicians responding to equipment breakdowns, fault finding/problem solving issues and supporting completion of routine maintenance.

* Starting salary of £18,400 per year, increasing to £25,400 after 1 year + annual bonus based on company performance.

To help you prepare, we wanted to share some top tips to bear in mind while you’re answering the interview questions!
* An interest in, and motivation for becoming a multi-skilled Engineering Technician – you don’t need to have had any prior work experience, but you’ll need to tell us why you think this practical apprenticeship is for you.
* Communication skills – you’ll meet and work with lots of different people across the site, so you’ll need to be able to listen to others as well as be open and honest and respectful in your communication.
* An ability to work within a team – you will have lots of your own tasks and/or projects to work on through the apprenticeship.
* Ability to follow instructions / Personal responsibility – it is critical that you can follow work instructions and health & safety guidelines at all times.
* A focus on quality (right first time) and problem solving – we’ll teach you how to safely work with manufacturing machinery and documentation tools.
* Ability to balance your work and study time – you’ll need to manage your time and workload, and to stay motivated and committed when facing challenges.
