Clinical Research Nurse
£37,378 - £39,405 per annum
Hammersmith campus, St Mary’s campus and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital
MED05140
Full time - Fixed term
About the role:
We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Clinical Research Nurse to work on a diverse portfolio of studies that aim to understand how to protect people against respiratory viral infections, within the Section of Adult Infectious Diseases as part of Professor Chris Chiu’s research group (www.imperial.ac.uk/people/c.chiu).
Influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and coronaviruses (CoV) are major causes of severe disease worldwide. They occur both seasonally and, as with SARS-CoV-2, may be responsible for devastating pandemics. There remain many unanswered questions about why some people develop severe disease while others do not when infected with the same virus. Better understanding of these differences will lead directly to improvements in the development of more effective vaccines and treatments.
Professor Chiu is a leading expert in the field of Controlled Human Infection (CHI) Studies. This specialist study design involves the deliberate infection of healthy volunteers.
What you would be doing:
1. You will work with Professor Chris Chiu, the Lead Nurse and team of Research Nurses to recruit participants to these world-leading experimental medicine and patient-facing studies.
2. Screen and enrol volunteers; assist with virus inoculation; monitor participants during their subsequent in-patient stay in the quarantine facility; obtain clinical samples, including by phlebotomy and assisting with bronchoscopy; and accurately record and enter clinical data.
What we are looking for:
You will be joining a well-established and friendly team of research nurses and will be a vital member of the team. You will be provided with learning opportunities and experience to develop within this field of Research Nursing. Whether new to research or experienced, a structured development plan will aid your development in clinical study delivery and participant management. This will include relevant formal training and support, with the goal of taking responsibility as the Named Nurse for a study within Professor Chiu’s portfolio.
1. Work with the team to ensure efficient day-to-day delivery of the current study portfolio.
2. Provide a high standard of customer service to our study participants.
3. Assist in the advertisement of open studies to aid recruitment.
4. Screen participants for enrolment against the inclusion and exclusion criteria.
5. Educate participants on study procedures.
6. Collect clinical data including ECGs and spirometry.
7. Monitor participants during in-patient stays and clinical procedures such as bronchoscopy.
8. Undertake clinical study procedures including phlebotomy, nasal sampling and assisting with bronchoscopy procedures.
9. Collect and input clinical data onto paper source worksheets and online databases.
What we can offer you:
1. The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to use science for humanity.
2. Benefit from a sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days’ annual leave and generous pension schemes).
3. Access to a range of workplace benefits including a flexible working policy from day one, generous family leave packages, on-site leisure facilities and cycle-to-work scheme.
