About the Role
Reporting to the Environmental Team Lead (ETL), the Environmental Specialist is responsible for providing competent Environmental advice and support to operating and non-operating functions, enabling legislative and INEOS FPS SHE requirements to be met or exceeded.
Provides Environmental Management expertise within a highly regulated and complex operating environment:
* 5x top tier CoMAH sites;
* 1x Offshore Installation covered by Safety Case Regulations (SCR);
* Circa 500km onshore / offshore pipelines which interface with Protected Areas (e.g. SPA, SAC, RAMSAR, SSSI);
* FPS is one of Scotland’s top emitters;
* Societal and customer expectations on Environment & Sustainability are key to FPS Strategy.
What does the day to day look like?
* Interface with Environmental day/day regulatory bodies including SEPA, OPRED and NSTA for all routine reporting and permit compliance requirements;
* Supports ETL with technical expertise and assurance on License to Operate documentation, including, environmental permits/ licences/ consents/ authorisations, including the COMAH Environmental Risk Assessment required to operate FPS in a responsible and compliant manner;
* Manage the UKETS Greenhouse Gas emissions permit for Kinneil/LPG in accordance with all regulatory requirements including the annual CO2 emissions verification and improvement plan cycle;
* Provide competent advice and expertise on risk based regulatory principles such as ALARP, BAT and SFAIRP to enable informed decisions to be made relating to environmental legislative requirements;
* Manage all environmental surveys with 3rd parties which includes air quality monitoring and Forth Estuary monitoring;
* Supports the ETL to maintain an integrated suite of environmental management system requirements for the business;
* Advise Projects & Asset Management teams on Environmental studies and requirements relating to specific activities, enabling INEOS FPS license to operate requirements to be met;
* Responsible for supporting the Environmental Advisor to ensure timely completion of periodic emissions reporting requirements to INEOS Group / external bodies;
* Responsible for maintaining the Net Zero Roadmap, ensuring it is aligned with FPS business strategy;
* Provide support to Sustainability initiatives to meet Net Zero Roadmap milestones, including facilitating the Ineos FPS Climate and Energy Forum;
* Represent INEOS FPS at relevant external technical forums to collaborate and inform industry best practice;
* Support emergency preparedness specialists, technical teams, and deployed SHE Advisors, undertake asset activities that are required to support delivery of environmental improvements within FPS (e.g. Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) Updates, Oil Spill Modelling Updates etc.)
* SHE representative for environmental related contracts within FPS, supporting the contract management team to drive continuous improvement;
* Active member of employee-led INEOS Scotland ESG Network (ISEN) to promote sustainability across the INEOS Grangemouth complex and hold the businesses accountable to change while sharing knowledge internally and local communities.
What do I need?
Minimum Qualifications
* Relevant degree in Engineering, Science, SHE or equivalent.
* Member of IEMA.
Minimum Experience
* Minimum 5 years post graduate experience.
* Relevant experience within an Environmental Advisor, Manager, and Specialist role, preferably within the energy industry or similar.

Job Knowledge Skills
* Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and compliance requirements, and in particular:
o The concept of Best Available Techniques (BAT);
o The application of the relevant BAT Reference Documents through the Pollution Prevention and Control (Scotland) Regulations (PPC);
o The monitoring and reporting requirements defined in the UK Emissions Trading Scheme legislation;
o The requirements for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA);
o The management of waste in accordance with legal requirements;
o The principles of soil and groundwater risk management.
o The principles of COMAH/ CDOIF.
* Knowledge of oil spill response principles and techniques.
* Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
