Job Description: As the Head of Health and Safety, you will be Hightown's Competent Person and strategic lead on all aspects of health and safety. You will ensure legislative compliance and promote risk mitigation across all areas of the business. This role requires effective management and innovative solutions, strong collaboration with key stakeholders, and influencing the strategic direction of the service based on operational and legislative environments.
Key Responsibilities:
* Act as Hightown's subject matter expert, providing guidance and support on technical, legal, and other health and safety issues.
* Develop, review, and implement health and safety policies, procedures, and guidance.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation through agreed solutions.
* Inspire colleagues to embed a proactive approach to health and safety across the Association.
* Monitor and report on health and safety performance, identifying areas of concern and opportunities for improvement.
* Advise the Executive team and Board on legislative requirements and accountabilities, providing assurance on the effectiveness of health and safety systems.
* Collaborate with the Head of Asset Management and Sustainability to oversee asset compliance data and prepare reports.
* Work with the Head of Care and Supported Housing Services to ensure health and safety within Hightown's services.
* Develop and implement Business Continuity Plans and emergency response procedures.
* Provide oversight and guidance to colleagues to ensure safety remains a priority.
* Set budgets and manage expenditure in line with specific budgets.
* Manage and motivate a team, ensuring high standards across all areas of operation.
* Chair Hightown's Health and Safety Consultation Committee, leading on the development and implementation of action plans.
* Horizon scan for new health and safety legislation, analysing its impact on Hightown's operations and corporate risk.
Requirements:
* Proven experience in a senior health and safety role.
* A recognised Health and Safety qualification.
* Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
* Excellent leadership and management skills.
* Ability to influence and collaborate with key stakeholders.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
