Contract: Volunteer Agreement (2 posts) Hours: 4-7 hours per week, 12 month minimum commitment Location: London Salary: Unpaid (we can contribute towards lunch and travel expenses) Closing date: 16th April 2025 Would you like to help survivors of torture develop the English language skills necessary to build self-esteem and support positive integration into life within the UK? We have an exciting opportunity for volunteer English teachers to join our friendly team; You will work with clients of Freedom from Torture to develop their English language skills, to aid rehabilitation and improve their quality of life. You need to plan and run weekly English classes for a group of clients or for individual one-to-one sessions. You will need to create and tailor content to meet the needs of individuals. The clients that you will support through English language teaching are survivors of torture and organised violence, many of whom have a range of mental health problems associated with the effects of being tortured. You must be able to show compassion and sensitivity towards their lived experiences. To be successful in this role you must be friendly, love teaching and most of all you must be able to create a comfortable and welcoming space which enables learning and empowers clients to help integrate them further into life in the UK. You must hold a qualification in ESOL teaching, or be able to provide evidence of other relevant teaching qualifications, or evidence of relevant teaching experience and working with vulnerable adults’ To view the Role Description and Person Specification, please click here.
