Job Purpose The Haleon Oral Healthcare R&D team supports the development of leading global brands in Consumer Healthcare. As part of OH Microbiology Research team, the Microbiologist will be an SME in the field of Oral Microbiology, providing expert advice and technical support to the R&D project teams. Reporting to the Microbiology Research Team Leader, the Microbiologist role will provide microbiology support for the delivery of new products, product development, innovations, methods, claims and technology development programmes that contribute to the growth of the Consumer Health Business. In addition, the role will guide junior Microbiology members on their daily activities and laboratory work. The role requires a collaborative, positive relationship with New Product Development, Innovation Research, Regulatory Affairs, Medical & Scientific Affairs and manufacturing Microbiology operations. Key Responsibilities SME in Oral Microbiology and associated research methodology, with a drive to maintain and expand knowledge alongside advancements in the field. Successfully manage complex R&D projects by providing technical input to project teams on microbiological aspects throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring Microbiology QbD principles and relevant regulatory requirements are built in project plan. Maintains a good project overview and understanding of business priorities and foresees potential issues, working proactively to provide solutions. Understands business needs and seeks opportunities to make improvements both within the scope of the project and in the Microbiology department working practices. Develops test plans with Design of Experiments (DoE) principles to generate robust data package for the new launch. Proactively identify new, innovative capabilities to support new launches, microbiological claims and visualisation. Work with academia and other third parties to deliver Trusted Science agenda and enhance the team’s technical capabilities to support project innovation in forward thinking manner. Ensures all routine and non-routine Microbiological work are always performed following good scientific practice or GMP and in accordance with written procedures. Prepares in-depth risk assessments for the projects and provides Microbiology expert summary for regulatory submissions. Proactively identifies opportunity to reduce testing or use of historical data via sound technical justification. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology Specific knowledge of Microbiology, Industrial microbiology, Oral Microbiology, Biofilms, Knowledge of Antimicrobials & preservatives Preferred Qualifications: MSc or PhD Technical expertise in a specialized Microbiology discipline such as Biofilm, Microbiome, host-microbe interactions Required Skills & Experience: Experience of working in a Microbiology laboratory, where independent design of experiments are required.
