As a Senior Investigation Officer, you will take a leading role in enforcing standards of professional and ethical conduct amongst our members to protect the public interest and safeguard the reputation of AAT and the accountancy profession. You will be responsible for investigating complaints of misconduct in accordance with AAT’s disciplinary framework and the suitability of applicants seeking membership or public practising licences where adverse matters have been disclosed. Your responsibilities will include managing a complex caseload, providing guidance and case direction to Investigation Officers, and ensuring that all investigations are conducted to the highest quality within prescribed time scales. You will collaborate with all stakeholders including legal representatives in relation to disciplinary tribunals, law enforcement and other stakeholders as required. Your role will also involve leading and collaborating on process development and improvements, as well as promoting a culture of professionalism and ethical behaviour within the organisation. Due to the nature of the role, you will need to be proactive, able to adopt a risk-based approach to your work, be solution focused and must be able to manage your time effectively.
Major objectives
Your major objectives will include:
* Lead investigations into complaints of misconduct and suitability of applicants to maintain public confidence in the accountancy profession.
* Drive positive behaviours and professional standards within stakeholder groups, ensuring ethics and public interest are embedded in organisational practices.
* Develop and implement procedures and systems to support the investigation process and manage risks to our reputation.
* Manage disciplinary and suitability casework, ensuring timely and high-quality reporting and communication with all parties involved.
* Provide support and guidance to Investigation Officers, promoting professional development and ensuring consistent, high-quality investigation outcomes.
* Stay current with industry trends and best practices, sharing intelligence and insights with other regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies.
* Provide specialist advice on ethics and compliance and ensure accurate record-keeping and effective communication of regulatory decisions.
What are we looking for?
* In-depth knowledge of investigations, complaints casework and UK anti-money laundering legislation.
* Ability to communicate complex information to non-technical audiences and influence key senior stakeholders.
* Strong critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
* Proven experience in managing, leading, and developing a team within a regulated environment.
* Ability to identify opportunities for enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in compliance processes.
* Excellent relationship-building capabilities with internal and external stakeholders.
* Relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent experience, with a professional qualification in investigation or AML being desirable.
* High levels of integrity, objectivity, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all matters.
