Join Close Brothers Compliance Team, where you will be providing advice and challenge to the Close Brothers Retail Division’s lending businesses and the Close Brothers Savings business. The role works closely with divisional executive and management stakeholders to enable management of regulatory and compliance risks in line with agreed risk appetite and is supportive of business strategy whilst enabling delivery of good customer outcomes. This role is responsible for ensuring business stakeholders are appropriately informed of regulatory considerations to inform sound decision-making.
This Retail Head of Compliance leads a team that provides technical advice on consumer credit, retail deposit-taking, and other relevant regulatory requirements. The role holder has a key voice at business-level management and risk committees and influences business-level decision-making through the provision of clear, commercial, and practical advice. This enables the businesses to sustain compliant business-as-usual operating processes and to timely adapt to regulatory developments in a sustainable manner.
The Retail Head of Compliance provides leadership direction and oversight whilst creating an inclusive working environment for the Compliance Advisory teams in Motor Finance, Premium Finance, and Savings businesses.
The role holder is a critical conduit to ensure business stakeholders have a clear, relevant, and actionable understanding of their compliance obligations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Compliance Advisory
1. Oversee and provide advice, guidance, and support on regulatory requirements as required.
o Expert knowledge and experience with the UK’s Consumer Credit Act and the FCA’s CONC and DISP requirements for regulated lending are necessary in this role.
o Knowledge and experience with the FCA’s BCOBS requirements, and a strong understanding of FSCS obligations are necessary in this role.
o A working knowledge of EMIR, MiFIR, SFTR, CSDR, and securitisation reporting obligations is desirable for interaction with the corporate Treasury team and loan securitisations.
2. Maintain an in-depth understanding of regulatory developments, existing requirements, and industry best practices.
People
1. Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team ensuring that the team demonstrates the highest professional and ethical standards and operates within appropriate governance frameworks.
2. Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities.
3. Hold regular meetings with direct reports ensuring feedback and coaching is provided on a timely basis.
Developing Our People: As a line manager, you will be responsible for inspiring and motivating your team, as well as developing performance through coaching. You will encourage your team to take responsibility for their own personal development and provide support through regular feedback.
WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE:
1. In-depth understanding of the UK’s financial services regulatory environment, specifically non-financial risks (e.g., conduct, compliance, and operational risk).
2. Extensive Compliance experience in an FCA-regulated financial services firm, and/or in the provision of consultancy services to such firms.
3. Experience managing compliance-related matters for consumer credit regulation in the UK financial services sector.
4. Sound judgment, integrity, professional ethics, and an ability to act independently.
5. Proven technical competence in compliance including in-depth knowledge of the relevant regulatory bodies and their requirements.
6. Experience of effecting organisational change and sustaining high-performing teams.
7. Ability to influence and persuade senior stakeholders.
8. Strong understanding of risk management principles, especially in relation to regulatory and customer-focused risks.
9. Experience in the management of conduct and regulatory risks, including the design and implementation of frameworks.
10. Proven experience interpreting and applying regulatory rules to practical scenarios and helping to devise compliant, commercially acceptable solutions.
11. Positive leadership qualities and style that empowers and motivates high-performing teams.
12. Excellent written and oral presentation skills with an inspirational and collaborative style.

1. Relevant professional qualification (e.g., CISI Global Financial Compliance qualification; IRM Certificate in Financial Services Risk Management).
