Clinical Specialist Theatre Practitioner
An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Busy Day Surgery Unit. We are now looking to recruit a Clinical Specialist in Day Surgery Theatres.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Promotes and demonstrates excellence in practice as clinical lead for multiple areas of expertise.
2. The successful applicant will be working closely with the Team Leader and other members of the MDT.
3. Creates, maintains and enhances effective working relationships.
4. Organises the clinical workload to ensure that staff are competent and confident to care for the needs of the patient.
5. Contributes to the identification of the skill and manpower requirement of the team, adopting flexible working practices.
6. Ensures effective delegation in line with the capabilities and competencies of the staff delegated to.
7. Participates in the monitoring and the management of sickness/absence.
8. Participates in the recruitment and selection of staff.
9. Participates in the identification and monitoring of staff performance through mentorship and assessment of individuals.
10. Maintain current and safe evidence-based practice by reviewing/writing perioperative policies on an annual basis.
11. Assists in the investigation of complaints in a proactive manner to improve and review the quality of the service.
12. Assists/participates in the investigation of clinical incidents in a proactive manner to improve and review the quality of service.
13. Contributes to the development of annual departmental, directorate, and trust objectives and the transfer of these to practice.
14. Works in line with core trust policy.
15. Leads in being the clinical specialist in their particular area of expertise.
16. Strives for continuous improvements in the delivery of high-quality patient-focused care.
17. As part of the multidisciplinary team participates in the Who Safeguard Surgery Checklist for each patient; sign in, time out, and sign out procedure.
18. Works in partnership with a multi-disciplinary team, assessing health-related needs of patients and their carers to identify and initiate steps to deliver effective and evidence-based care.
19. Promotes and demonstrates holistic care of individuals.
20. Carries out identified intermittent dual role skills after undertaking the Trust in-house training programme for minor to intermediate cases in accordance with the Trust's dual role policy and guidelines.
21. Demonstrates clinical judgement and the ability to articulate why decisions are made.
22. Delivers direct care to patients within their caseload in accordance with the Trust's policies and NMC/HPC Guidelines.
Person Specification
Experience
* Significant post-registration experience within theatres in a wide range of specialties.
* PACU experience.
* Anaesthetic Qualification.
Qualifications
* RGN/RODP.
* Post Registration Experience.
* Diploma level qualification or equivalent experience.
* Degree in professional practice or working towards.
* Management or leadership qualification/certificate.
Knowledge and Awareness
* Essential knowledge of your own specialty and current issues in health care.
* An understanding of skills and knowledge required to develop self and team members.
* Demonstrates a clear understanding of budget management.
* Awareness of own limitations.
Other
* Fit to perform the duties of the post.
* Able to participate fully in clinical practice.
* Able to work flexibly over a 24 hour/ 7 day period.
* Participate in on-call rotas when necessary.
