To assist in the daily preparation of cooked nutritious meals for service users ensuring food is of a high quality.
Your main duties would include:
* Assisting in the planning and preparation of a varied choice of menus, ensuring properly balanced and nutritious meals are provided, taking into account any special dietary requirements and service user preferences.
* Assisting in ensuring that the storage, preparation and cooking of all food is carried out using the highest standards of hygiene.
* Being responsible for the storage and use of cleaning items in accordance with COSHH.

MAIN PURPOSE

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* May be required to deputise in absence of Chef.
* To assist in the planning and preparation of a varied choice of menus, ensuring properly balanced and nutritious meals are provided, taking into account any special dietary requirements and service user preferences.
* To follow any dietary or food preparation guidelines as provided in service user care plans and guidance by health care professionals.
* To assist in ensuring that the storage, preparation and cooking of all food is carried out using the highest standards of hygiene.
* To assist the Chef in maintaining appropriate levels of stock and may be required to place orders of food when required.
* Ensure high standards of food management within current Food Hygiene regulations and policies and procedures.
* To use electrical and mechanical catering equipment as appropriate.
* To ensure any defects and faults in catering equipment are reported to the Chef.
* To be responsible for the storage and use of cleaning items in accordance with COSHH.
* Ensure responsibilities with regards to Food Hygiene and preparation and Health and Safety requirements are followed and to inform the Chef of anything that does not meet required standards.
* To contribute to other food related functions as required by the service.
* Establish and maintain professional working relationships with the service users, contributing to the creation of a homely and pleasant living environment for each service user.
* To work as a member of the team, contributing to the team ethos and supporting service users(s) and colleagues appropriately.
* To report any enquiries/issues and/or concerns to the line manager providing information to enable them to take appropriate action.
* To liaise in a professional manner at all times with service user(s), family members, friends, advocates and other professionals as required at your location.
* To ensure that all relevant documentation is completed accurately and effectively in a timely manner.
* To work on a rota which may include weekend and bank holiday working.
* To undertake any other duties as may from time to time be specified by Brainkind, that is within the level and responsibility appropriate to the grade of post.
* To undertake any reasonable travelling requirements, in order to fulfil the tasks and responsibilities of the role.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Experience of working in a kitchen environment.
* Awareness of Health and Safety relevant to catering.
* Awareness of COSHH requirements.
* A knowledge of portion, stock control and food cost control.
* Experience of working with vulnerable adults/care setting.
* Experience of catering within a commercial or care setting.
* Ability to work within a team.
* Experience in the preparation and formulation of specialist diets.
