West Berkshire Council is seeking a Lawyer - Regulation and Litigation to join our Legal and Democratic Service, reporting to the Principal Lawyer (Regulatory & Litigation). The Role Responsibilities As part of the Regulation and Litigation team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality legal advice and support on a variety of regulatory and litigation matters. Your key responsibilities will include: Handling a caseload of regulatory and litigation matters, including but not limited to, licensing, trading standards, environmental health, and information law. Advising on legal implications of regulatory decisions and providing guidance to officers and committees. Representing the Council at hearings, tribunals, and court proceedings. Conducting legal research and preparing legal documents, such as contracts, agreements, and court pleadings. Providing general legal advice across a range of issues. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes: Qualified solicitor or barrister with a valid practising certificate. Experience in regulatory and litigation law, ideally within a local authority or public sector environment. Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and legal principles. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders. Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to manage a diverse caseload and work under pressure. Team player with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues.
