Summary of the Position
The Buyer's main function is to build product lines in tune with divisional merchandise strategies that generate targeted sales, profit and liquidation levels.
The identification of sports/fashion trends, regular communication with the Customer Experience & Sales team, and regular market visits are key elements to building a successful product range. Negotiations with vendors on quantity, exclusivity, delivery deadlines and price are fundamental aspects of the job, geared towards maximizing the company's profits and surpassing margin goals.

The buyer will have a key role in developing the 'Collections' and 'Content' component of the "Customer Connected" strategic framework by delivering the most compelling and unique assortments whilst engaging consumers with powerful story-telling.
One of the key buyer responsibilities is to establish effective working relationships with vendors to strengthen business and support company strategies. Past and predicted vendor performance & fashion trends will help the buyer determine product strategy for the coming seasons, within which the buyer should identify 'key items' that are expected to drive department sales throughout the current period.
To be successful in this role, the buyer will need commercial awareness, creative flair, and excellent analytical skills.
Consumer Centric
1. Identifies European trends through the eyes of the customer - embraces the "sneaker culture"
2. Gains critical marketplace /competitive insights that impact the business
3. Brief vendors on relevant trends for the Foot Locker muse
4. Drive the creative trend direction for the department, identifying new products, seasonal themes and vendors
5. Influences the vendors in incorporating relevant trends into the line
Future Thinking
1. Develop and build a strategic business plan for the department based on current performance and future trends
2. Ensure department merchandise strategies are consistent with the company's division level strategic plan
3. Anticipate future trends, opportunities and consequences accurately and create a plan of action to get in front of them
Range Planning
1. Build a relevant assortment that incorporates current and future business trends
2. Ensure there is a good/better/best tiered assortment
3. Develop assortments based on regional trends and relevance
4. Understand components of OTB and use forward thinking to manage the business
5. Together with Planner, ensure style plan aligns with Financial Plan, Merchandise Strategy, and business plan
Collaboration
1. Build working relationships with vendors and colleagues to strengthen business and support company strategies
2. Compile and analyze vendor results at department and category level
3. Partner with vendors early to influence the product development and assortment
4. Ensure department vendor strategy and targets align with division strategy
5. Recommend and support joint vendor initiatives
In Season Management
1. Analyze business & consumer data that create insights that lead to action plans
2. Understand customer cross-channel shopping behavior and how to leverage buys through all channels
3. Recommend category and brand actions (promotions, marketing, markdowns and cancellations) to Key business partners
4. Partner with Planner to create 12 month rolling forecast linked to financial plans and review with divisional management
Qualifications
Candidate Profile
1. University or College degree in Fashion/Business or equivalent education and experience
2. Minimum 5 years' experience in a trend driven, high volume company
3. Fully aware and tuned into the youth market (18-25 years)
4. Understanding of the European consumer and regional differences
5. Requires awareness of what is trending from a "sports fashion" perspective - both from a high fashion, aspirational perspective as well as a local, start-up perspective
6. Proficient in Microsoft Office - spreadsheet functionality (Excel, etc.) required
7. Highly analytical and critical thinking skills
8. Must be opportunistic - can see business opportunities
9. Proven track record in building successful product ranges
10. Experienced & skilled in conducting effective negotiations
11. Sound problem-solving and decision-making abilities
12. Business mathematical skills required
13. Ability to work under pressure and with own initiative
14. Sound business/commercial awareness, high concern for effectiveness, entrepreneurial
15. Enthusiastic, goal-oriented team player with a desire to join the biggest in the business
16. Flexibility required of normal working hours
17. Possess a valid driver's license
