Job Title: Mechanical Assembly Fitter
Location: Birkenhead, Wirral
Duration: 3-6 months
Shifts: Day shift (Mon to Thurs 7.30am- 4pm, Friday 7.30am -12.30pm)
We are currently recruiting for a number of Assembly Fitters to work day shifts for a 3-6 month contract based in Birkenhead.
Could move to Afternoons (Mon to Thurs 4pm-12am, Friday 10am-3pm).
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Work on own initiative or as part of a team within a dedicated team of fitters working to production deadlines.
2. Perform tasks within the assembly areas considered to be within his/her capability.
3. Be flexible and work in any assembly area, accepting the possible varying shift patterns and also to help if required in non-assembly areas.
4. Undertake any necessary training to allow for flexibility between the differing assembly areas and train other personnel.
5. Overhaul, repair, assemble and test a variety of equipment, including warranty returns, refurbished and new: calipers, actuators, discs, couplers, brake control equipment, etc.
6. Build test installations in line with test specifications and schematics. Operate the same, interpreting results and adjusting units to required settings to achieve required outputs.
7. Investigate, fault find and diagnose likely causes where equipment does not achieve required outputs or does not fit together, and where possible correct the fault. Notify appropriate personnel of actual and potential problems.
8. Operate monitoring, measuring and diagnostic equipment.
9. Ensure quality requirements are met by working to technical documents and work instructions.
10. Pass relevant information over to the next shift to aid a smooth changeover.
11. Carry out minor maintenance tasks and specified routine preventative maintenance, some of which may be outside the assembly areas.
12. Participate in continuous improvement workshops in order to increase efficiency within the company. Utilise CI tools such as 5S to improve the flow and workplace layout.
13. Raise Non Conformance Records as appropriate.
14. Communicate to supervision any deficiencies in the production activity as they are detected and suggest possible actions to correct these deficiencies.
15. Ensure that tools, gauges, measuring equipment, etc. are properly stored.
16. Comply with Company and statutory Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental and Personnel policies and procedures.
Desirable: Experience in valve repair, overhauling and assembling train components/brakes would be advantageous.
Overtime: Overtime is available.
Day shift rates:
Pay Rate (per hour):
Umbrella Basic - Training rate £19.01 increasing to £21.20 after training complete
PAYE Basic - Training rate £15.02, increasing to £16.69 after training complete
Afternoon shift rates:
Pay Rate:
Umbrella Basic - Training rate £22.55, increasing to £25.13 after training complete
PAYE Basic - Training £17.72, increasing to £19.69 after training complete
