Main duties of the job Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Otolaryngology with a specialist interest in Head and Neck to join a team of 7 WTE Consultants and 4 Less than full time consultants. The post will be based at the Sunderland Royal site with possible requirement for peripheral clinics at Durham, Washington or South Tyneside. The Directorate comprises the specialties of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery, Audiology and Orthodontics, providing a sub-regional service to Sunderland, North Durham and South Tyneside covering a population of around 850,000. ENT inpatient services are based at Sunderland Royal Hospital. Patients are nursed on a dedicated H&N ward which has two high dependency bays for the post-operative management of complex patients and is staffed by dedicated H&N nurses. Screen displayed fibreoptic assessment is widely available throughout for both inpatients and outpatients. The department has a Medtronic Stealth Image Guidance System mainly used in Rhinological procedures. There are 2 main ENT operating theatres plus a separate paediatric theatre. ENT has access to a Da Vinci Xi robot and theatre staff provide specialist cover to ENT and OMFS. There is a dedicated H&N outpatient department, staffed by nursing staff from within the Directorate with Nurse Practitioners attached; Audiology is co-located.
