Job Title: Managing Quantity Surveyor Location: Project/office-based role with offices based in Motherwell, Aberdeen, Peterhead and Inverness Working hours: 42 hours per week, Monday - Friday Pay rate: Negotiable About Us: We are seeking a highly experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of all costs and income on large building and civil engineering projects, or a portfolio of smaller projects. We are looking for a candidate with a proven track record in cost minimization and value enhancement, ensuring that all projects meet the required standards and quality. This role involves leading and managing a commercial team and mentoring staff toward achieving professional qualifications. Purpose of the Role: To manage all costs and income related to construction projects, from initial calculations to final figures, while effectively minimizing costs and enhancing value for money. To lead and mentor a commercial team, fostering their professional development. The Managing Quantity Surveyor will contribute to delivering significant projects like the ASTI scheme, aimed at boosting Scotland’s overhead line network's reliability and capacity. Responsibilities: Governance: Adhere to company governance requirements and maximize LEAN/digital opportunities. Commercial Management and Administration: Mitigate potential commercial risks. Apply principles of cost management and elemental cost analysis. Manage subcontractors and the wider supply chain. Identify and understand cost-sensitive areas. Prepare pricing documents, activity schedules, bills of quantities, and target costs. Conduct risk and opportunity analysis and management. Undertake benchmarking exercises and set/monitor KPIs. Review project progress against various programs. Prepare delay and disruption programs. Review and report commercial progress and performance, and manage accurate out-turn cost predictions. Identify and communicate threats to budget and program. Customer/Change Management: Report and explain commercial progress to senior project staff. Manage cost planning and pre-contract cost control. Manage commercial aspects with customers and stakeholders. Advise on contractual matters and formulate correspondence. Procurement: Manage procurement, identifying and mitigating risks and optimizing opportunities. Evaluate and negotiate complex tenders, including subcontractors and suppliers. Development, Recruitment, and Retention: Recruit and manage HR/People aspects for direct and indirect reports. Skills, Knowledge & Experience: Essentials: BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent level of education or experience Membership of RICS, ICES, or CIOB (or working towards).
