Your new opportunity
The WHAT IF Female Service provides outreach support to 10 young women aged between 18-25 years who are accommodated in flats throughout the city. We are currently recruiting a full time Intensive Support Worker who will play a key part in supporting young women who have experienced trauma in their young lives and who have been affected by childhood experiences, such as abuse, neglect, witnessing experiences such as crime, domestic violence, mental illness, and alcohol / substance abuse, resulting in long-term effects on their behaviour, health and learning. As an Intensive Support Worker, you will provide practical support in all aspects of everyday living including emotional/therapeutic support when required. A key part of the role will be to ensure trust is developed with each individual and that you are a reliable consistent support to young woman to allow them to gain a sense of security and resilience. The successful candidate will have experience working within homelessness, and/or addiction or mental health support, you will work closely with young people who have been affected by this.
Working pattern This is a full time, permanent role offering 39 hours per week. The project provides 24/7 support; staff work a shift pattern including day shifts and late shifts. Telephone support is provided overnight to the young women when needed. Due to the delivery of the service flexibility is essential to ensure assistance and advise is available at all times.
What you will need to bring to the role
• Proven experience of supporting people who are homeless and providing intensive support to people with complex needs.
• Compassion, understanding and ability to work under pressure.
• Confidence and ability to work with people 1:2:1 and in a community-based setting.
• Ability to identify and respond affectively to individual emotional support needs.
• Enthusiasm and self-motivation.
• Excellent problem solver who is driven by positive outcomes.
• Resilient, reliable and an excellent listener.
• Excellent communication skills.
