In line with Better Births, we offer both traditional and Continuity of Carer models of working. We are delighted to be able to offer the successful applicants a robust supernumerary period of five weeks, to include mandatory training and an opportunity to work in all inpatient areas. This is led by the Pastoral Support Midwives and supported by our friendly, welcoming multi-disciplinary team, including Professional Midwifery Advocates.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will take charge of the ward/department including functioning as Team leader on labour ward and take continuing responsibility on a shift basis to organise the client group within the defined area, and to provide specialist advice within this clinical area.
The post holder will lead a team of staff and co-ordinate the clinical workload and ensure the effective and efficient use of resources during the shift period. The post holder will co-ordinate the clinical workload and ensure the effective use of resources through the deployment of staff, monitoring of skill mix and utilisation of clinical competence and experience.
The post holder will ensure the safe custody, administration and economical use of drugs and surgical supplies.
The post holder will undertake rotational duties and be expected to adopt a flexible approach to working practices to meet the needs of the service.
The post holder will assist in the development of service initiatives within the department and take the lead as appropriate ensuring that care is evidence-based and evaluated by audit.

Person Specification
Experience
* Extensive all-round experience in midwifery - including substantial labour ward experience
Qualifications
* Registered Midwife - with valid NMC registration
* ENB 997/998 or other equivalent teaching qualification
* Educated to post-graduate Diploma level/or equivalent
* Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) course
* Newborn Life Support (NLS) course
* Mentorship and preceptorship training
* High dependency care training
* Trained in extended roles (perineal repair, epidural top-ups, venipuncture, cannulation, and IV additives, PH sampling)
* Evidence of ongoing professional development and fulfilment of PREP requirements
* Fulfilment of all mandatory training including CTG updating, adult resuscitation, and MDA training
* Educated to degree level
