If so, Signature Recruitment has an exciting opportunity for a Lab Technician at a prestigious London University Teaching Lab. This is a temporary, full-time position based on campus. It has an immediate start for one month with the possibility to extend.
In this role as Lab Technician, you will be instrumental in preparing and managing laboratory setups for practical classes, ensuring students have everything they need for a successful learning experience. Whether it’s mixing reagents, clearing down labs post-experiment, or assisting with student queries, your contribution will be key to the smooth running of the laboratory activities. You will work with a team of technicians, line managed by a Senior Technician. You will have a good understanding of health and safety regulations and the impacts of laboratory work.
Lab Technician Key Responsibilities:
1. Working under the guidance of a Senior Lab Technician, prepare and set up labs for practical classes, including large-scale experiments.
2. Apply knowledge of pharmacy or microbiology in setting up and clearing down lab spaces efficiently.
3. Assisting students during lab activities and practical assignments and provide technical support and assistance, signposting as necessary.
4. Maintaining facilities and ensuring efficient use of resources and controlling associated stocks/store, equipment, and other supplies.
5. Reporting any accidents or incidents to the line manager/supervisor.
6. Other administrative and practical tasks as required in order to ensure the smooth running of the Teaching Lab, department and wider university.
Lab Technician Key Skills:
1. Knowledge of pharmacy or microbiology complemented by a strong understanding of working in a Lab with health and safety protocols will be advantageous.
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a natural ability to put students at ease, encourage inquiry, and adapt to new situations.
3. Highly punctual, with good organisational skills to confidently manage day-to-day tasks based on a predefined work plan.
