About the role.
This is a fantastic opportunity within a brand new department, and will be based at our Bakkavor Spalding site, which employs over 1,470 people across 3 manufacturing facilities & 1 Distribution Centre. We specialise in making hand crafted sandwich wraps, salads, dips, soups & sauces and mayonnaise.
The successful candidate will report into the Transport Manager and supervise the cost-effective delivery of transport plans ensuring SLA's and KPI's are achieved whilst complying with legislation, health and safety and customer service.
Role Accountabilities:
1. Ensure Transport co-ordinators accurately route plan and schedule vehicles in order to meet pre-agreed times into collection and delivery sites including maintenance workshops in line with the planned maintenance schedule. Ensuring that you are communicating priorities and any issues effectively across the team.
2. Assign drivers' holidays according to the needs of the business and record in departmental systems, updating the drivers rota spreadsheet.
3. Delegate Transport duties to the Transport co-ordinators effectively on a day-to-day basis, ensuring all tasks are covered and completed efficiently within the Transport operation.
4. Ensure that the briefing and debriefing of drivers is accurately captured prior to leaving and returning to site. Complete regular team briefings as required.
5. Oversee and monitor the reporting and escalation of defects ensuring defects are actioned and achieved daily to ensure that the vehicles and trailers are always legal on the road. Conduct accident investigations for any accidents on or off site.
6. Provides instruction, support, and guidance to drivers and agency workers as required. Manage infringements that require formal actions.
7. All paid haulage is to be captured and inputted, including the rates and then forward to the finance department.
8. Ensure team compliance with current legal framework for road transport operations on EU and Domestic driver hours and ensure that the operation is fully compliant with regulations governing operation of a commercial vehicle fleet as enforced by The Office Of The Traffic Commissioners and DVSA.
9. In the absence of the Compliance Administrator, maintain the Transport filing system for vehicles and trailers in accordance with legal procedures, ensuring records are correct. Administer the archiving of documentation when required to ensure that the operation is fully compliant with regulations governing operation of a commercial vehicle fleet as enforced by The Office of The Traffic Commissioners and DVSA.
About you:
1. CPC Qualification
2. Experience of working within a busy transport office with people management responsibility
3. Knowledge of drivers hours, tachograph and WTD legislation, and legal requirements within transport
4. IT literate with experience of using Microsoft packages and transport systems
5. Excellent attention to detail and communication skills
6. Able to work as part of a team and independently
7. Self-starter with the ability to work using their own initiative
