Welsh-speaking Cover Supervisors

New Directions Education are currently recruiting for Welsh speaking Cover Supervisors to work in various Secondary Schools throughout Cardiff. The position will be working as general cover throughout local schools covering day to day absences and courses.
As a cover supervisor you will be expected to supervise pupils whilst they carry out work that has been pre-prepared by a teacher, manage the behaviour of pupils whilst they are undertaking this work, deal with any immediate problems & be familiar with the school’s policies and procedures.
The days are flexible depending on each of the school’s needs. We offer the chance of day-to-day cover as well as long term opportunities which often lead to permanent contracts. This role offers practical classroom experience and the opportunity to later apply for teacher training through New Directions Education. Alternatively, you may be a qualified teacher looking for temporary work which will not require planning, marking and assessment.
You must have a proven track record of managing or leading that can be transferred into a classroom environment, specifically, your experience must include leading groups of 10+, this could be groups of children, youth work or adults with learning difficulties.
The ability to speak Welsh is essential for this role.
Job Specification
Working as a Cover Supervisor can be a very rewarding but very demanding role. Schools may wish to employ staff for cover supervision but on occasions where they are not needed for cover, they might also be released to provide additional support to Teachers in classrooms, or to carry out administrative tasks.
Ideally, candidates will be required to:
1. Develop curricular knowledge in line with the school requirements
2. Apply the school’s behaviour management policy and report any difficulties to the class Teacher/senior leadership team
3. Set homework in line with the classroom Teacher requirements
4. Provide homework under the guidance of the class Teacher
5. Administer class tests if requested
6. Supervise the work of the Teaching Assistant, providing support if required
7. Abide by and work towards all policies within the school, eg – behaviour management, health and safety, equal opportunities
8. Carry out pre-prepared exercises in the short-term absence of the class Teacher
9. Ensure students remain on task through classroom management
10. You will not be required to plan lessons, but will have the opportunity to lead the class
11. Assisting students where required and ensuring lessons are delivered
12. Collect completed work and pass to the class teacher.
