We are looking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and passionate Learning Coach (Teaching Assistant) for the SSC (Specialist Support Centre) to work with students who are facing a variety of challenges which affect their progress in the classroom. The Special Support Centre (SSC) supports students who have Speech and Language difficulties and/or a severe Specific Learning Difficulty. All the students are generally within, or above, the average intellectual range but have low literacy levels. All students who attend the SSC have a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD) which is often Dyslexia, ADHD and/or Speech and Language Difficulties.
The SSC currently has 10 places for students with an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan), a specialist teacher and another Learning Coach. The post holder would be required to be resourceful, understanding and be prepared to work both in the classroom and a withdrawal situation with a particular focus on literacy and numeracy support if required.
In addition, the post holder will be expected to act as a Tutor for a Mentor Group or other directed intervention for up to 45 mins each morning as required and at times to supervise students at break and lunch times, offering structured activities to students. The successful candidate will join an established team of both teachers, HLTA’s and Learning Coaches (TAs) and must be prepared to work in a flexible, creative and collegiate way.
We offer pay scales above the national standard, reduced gym membership to our on-site gym, reduced fees for the on-site nursery, and a laptop. There is a car leasing scheme and all staff can access ‘Perkbox’ offering discounts in weekly shopping, high street stores and flights and holidays. Why? Because we want the best for all our staff as well as our students!
We are working hard to become a more diverse organisation – which is key to our commitment to bringing out the best in everyone. We welcome applications from everyone committed to this ethos and would particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in the Group as a whole. We always appoint on merit. We are open to discussing flexible working options.
