We are seeking an experienced Registered Children's Nurse to join our Paediatric ED team at West Suffolk Hospital.
We have a paediatric area within our emergency department which is staffed with a dedicated team of paediatric nurses. We work to ensure that children presenting to the emergency department are treated in an appropriate area with suitably trained staff.
We work closely with our paediatric in-patient area to ensure that children are cared for by paediatric trained staff and their transition to in-patient care (if required) is seamless.
The unit is staffed with at least 2 registered nurses 24 hours a day and has its own full-time unit manager. In addition, we have support from a full-time play specialist, a part-time Children's Advanced Nurse Practitioner, as well as the ENP team and medical teams.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be working with the paediatric ED lead nurse and other Paediatric sisters to ensure the day-to-day running of the department. They will be responsible for ensuring the unit is staffed, supporting junior staff members, meeting urgent and emergency care KPIs and standards, liaising with the inpatient unit and main emergency department, and delivering direct patient care. They will also be responsible for supporting patient care needs and escalating staffing, estates, and equipment issues to the lead nurse and other appropriate pathways. The role will also include supervising and assessing both junior staff and student nurses.
