An opportunity has arisen within the Homerton Healthcare Foundation Trust to be a Specialist Bereavement Midwife. This post is part-time 0.4 WTE (15 hours per week), requiring Monday and Tuesday daytime working (this is a job share). This role will include weekend cover to support the provision of a 7-day bereavement care service.
We are seeking an innovative, proactive, compassionate Midwife who can demonstrate a high level of specialised bereavement care through evidenced-based information and exceptional organisational skills to monitor, review, and provide assurance that the service meets national recommendations.

Main Duties of the Job
As a Specialist Bereavement Lead Midwife, the role includes:
* Being an information and support source for staff, bereaved parents, and their families;
* Being familiar with all the policies and protocols relevant to caring for parents;
* Developing knowledge, insight, and skills to provide high-quality sensitive care to parents who experience the death of a baby, before, during, or shortly after birth;
* Acting as a clinical specialist providing verbal and written information to bereaved families on funeral options;
* Enabling the bereaved to access their entitlements by liaising with outside agencies;
* Being a resource for medical, nursing, and midwifery staff on physical, psychological, and administrative aspects of bereavement care;
* Being aware of research and best practices in bereavement, identifying areas for improvement in bereavement care within the Homerton Foundation Trust through audit and other means;
* Maintaining and developing own professional and clinical knowledge/skills and personal development, including participating in in-service training education, standards, and professional guidelines, and supporting the implementation of the National Bereavement Care Pathway.

* Ability to empower women and health professionals in all aspects of bereavement;
* Experience of managing distressing situations;
* Ability to defuse potentially adverse situations in a calm manner and find solutions to complex situations;
* Highly developed communication skills - written and verbal;
* Extensive experience of working autonomously;
* Ability to communicate at all levels within the MDT team;
* Developed IT skills with a good understanding of all Windows applications;
* Ability to present formally Trust-wide, and to outside agencies.
Experience
* Extensive experience of bereavement issues;
