A critical part of the Academy team, the Head Academy Physiotherapist will be responsible for delivering outstanding medical care across our men’s Academy programme.
This role will work closely with the Head of Medical Services and Academy Manager to ensure that the player’s physical and mental wellbeing is at the heart of development discussions and decisions.
The Details:
• Based at Surrey Sports Park, but happy to travel nationally and internationally as required.
• Will be required to work regular weekends and some evenings.
• Reports to Head of Medical Services and Academy Manager, with key relationships with Head Academy Strength and Conditioning and the Medical and Athletic Performance Team.
The Responsibilities:
1.Clinical
• Ensure all aspects of player care are monitored including prehab, rehab, fitness assessments and treatment.
• Assess, analyse and provide a clinical diagnosis for all injured players to determine their need for physiotherapy intervention.
• Plan, implement, evaluate, treat and progress player care to maximise rehabilitation potential.
• Manage caseload of players effectively and efficiently.
• Produce daily and weekly reports of player injury status.
• Maintain patient documentation, records and accurate statistical information to reflect care provided and meet professional standards.
• Communicate and make recommendations to all relevant disciplines of staff to maximise player care and promote multidisciplinary working.
• Develop, implement and maintain appropriate clinical guidelines ensuring clinical effectiveness to optimise player care.
• Organise and assist in the preseason screening programme.
• Provide pre-game and pitch-side medical support services at all academy games.
2.Managerial
• Participate in the departmental personal development and performance review system to promote personal and service developments.
• Support the Junior Academy Physiotherapists to develop physiotherapy services to maximise player care and efficient use of resources.
• Monitor activity and support the Medical and Athletic Performance team to prioritise resources to meet service demands without compromising patient care.
• Be actively involved in clinical audit to support the club’s clinical governance strategy.
• Liaise with a range of individuals, internal and external to the Club, to ensure effective service delivery.
• Comply with health, safety and other relevant regulations and legislation.
• Ensure RFU minimum medical standards criteria are met for annual compliance evaluation.
3.Educational
• Demonstrate continuous development of clinical knowledge and skills to ensure delivery of evidence-based, industry leading care.
• Participate in CPD training and advice to all Academy physiotherapy staff.
• Support physiotherapy in-service to promote personal development.
• Supervise the clinical training of undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy students as required.
4.Communications and Relationships
• To communicate with RFU age grade staff and other relevant pathway teams medical staff regarding the fitness and injury status of Harlequins Academy players.
• To communicate and develop an effective relationship with strength and conditioning staff.
• To communicate with the Academy coaching team with regards to injury and fitness status of all players on a regular basis.
• To communicate and develop an effective relationship with the First team and Academy doctors to ensure the highest level of care is delivered to the playing squad.
The Experience, Qualifications and Skills needed:
Essential:
• BSc in Physiotherapy or equivalent for a minimum of 5 years.
• A minimum of two years post-graduate experience with elite sports people.
• Sports specific emergency pitch-side training.
• Good organisational skills including record keeping.
• On-going maintenance of CPD as outlined by your regulatory body.
• Demonstrable skills to work well within a multidisciplinary high-performance team environment.
• HCPC registered.
Desirable:
• Physiotherapy experience in a professional rugby team environment.
• A post-graduate qualification in sports physiotherapy or musculoskeletal physiotherapy or sports science.
• An understanding of strength and conditioning/sports science.
• Full clean drivers’ licence.
